βWhether weβre looking at the infrastructure needed to provide flexibility, the control system needed to manage it, the policy and regulation designed to enable it β all of these need to change for innovators to create solutions we need.β
Alongside the report, we introduced a new Systems of Systems Map, designed to help innovators visualise how technologies, markets and organisations interact across the energy system, and where the biggest opportunities lie.
Jon Saltmarsh, Chief Technology Officer at Energy Systems Catapult, said:
Balancing supply and demand in the energy system requires a shift in both mindset and approach.
That was one of the key messages from last weekβs launch of our Innovating to Net Zero report, where the energy community came together to explore how innovation can help reshape the UK energy system.
