so do we think the Master Collection version of MGS4 will be a better play experience than the PS3 version? from what i can gather, the previous collection was still inferior to original hardware and even PC emulation.
Zero Brightness is, quite literally, the best horror game podcast. (and iβm
not just saying that because i was on an episode to talk about Zelda.) incredibly interesting analysis informed by a broad interest in art, media, and journalism. the βsuper-sad RPGβ ep about Omori and EarthBound is A++
yes
this *does* affect tv shows pretty frequently. it famously held up all seasons of Malcolm In the Middle except the first from being released on DVD and pretty much butchered the home release and streaming versions of MTV shows like Daria and The State.
helpful!
personally, i ended up moving my actual continued work onto Patreon, but my Substack still exists as an archive of my past work and i donβt feel conflicted about that. there are also alternatives to YouTube like Nebula. i donβt begrudge anyone who uses either platform on some moral purity level.
let me try. i think, most of the time, it is not useful political action to pick fights with people who are on your side, and i think shitting on people for still using Substackβa very popular and accessible serviceβis more about ego than anything else.
or more simply, βleftist infighting badβ
do you remember the days of ShitRedditSays? they always used to mock people who complained about censorship as βfreeze peach warriors.β
that said, historically, SRS, GCJ and the like are a contrarian impulse. the Steam and PC gaming subreddits are overwhelmingly lashing back against this.
while i agree with your conclusion, i wish to emphasize that i am critiquing those who find it more important to pick holes in the fabric of their coalition over trivialities than to build solidarity. i find this tendency toxic on both an organizational and personal level.
personally i think if someone is on some βif you use substack iβm never clicking a link of yours againβ shit, i hope i never see them use a YouTube link, just based on the same principles.
itβs cowardly moral oneupsmanship, not a meaningful ethical stance, and itβs rarely internally consistent.
Sure, people love Ghost right now. So what happens when a bunch of scumbags start using Ghost? Do people genuinely believe any of these platforms can stay permanently ideologically pure? I don't trust any of the people who run ANY of these things. I've watched one after another suddenly go insane.
if any cult extreme metal guy wont use your preferred pronouns, just start calling all their projects metal core

go listen to primitive man and vermin womb. the dude is a legend
lol, absolutely vile. gotta love the smearing of anti-censorship parties as pedophiles by transitive property.
if it makes you feel better iβm sure a lot of comments like this are bots attempting to manufacture consent since like half of Reddit is a psyop now
really?? from my experience reddit has been enormously anti-censorship since this wave of Collective Shout-related fuckery began.
thinking about this again in the wake of the great Payment Processor Apocalypse across Steam and itch. your heckin wholesome non-problematic content will be purged along with the rest of us pervs freaks and weirdos. thereβs a saying i vaguely remember involving the cop in your head.
totally missed this earlier in the year but if youβre like me and are a mega-simp for Discordance Axis this is required reading
but that has never once impacted my estimation of Buffy as a tremendously valuable, powerful, and beautiful work of art. nor should it!
please note however that this is in no way advocacy of βseparating art from artistβ which is a fundamentally impossible endeavor. BTVS is my favorite show of all time and i will forever have to grapple with Joss Whedonβs shittiness because of it.
one value that i personally hold very dear to me is that media consumption is not inherently virtuous or villainous. engaging with and even enjoying the art of a bad person does not and will never make you a bad person by any transitive property.
if iβm taking an empathetic tack, i think something this banal striking such a chord in someone speaks to a huge emotional void at the center of their life that is not being filled by meaningful relationships with people and art. it is shocking how low the bar is for a lot of people.
Ryan Reynolds is the Yoko Ono of IASIP
canβt stop thinking about this ig comment since watching the season 17 premiere yesterday
a pet peeve of mine is when folks talk about transgressive art and have to constantly reaffirm that they like it the "right way" like i get where they're coming from but also i wish it didn't have to be this way. you can just like a thing, that's good enough i think
Instead of paying some jag off $1000 to spray poison around your house just release 20 wolf spiders in your apartment. Work smarter not harder.
Ginger Snaps and Spider-Man are basically the same thing.
fuckkk someone mentioned The Addiction and that movie goes so fucking hard
this genuinely may be the most seething, roiling mass of an album iβve ever heard. iβm truly not sure if iβve ever heard anything as genuinely, viscerally misanthropic as this. mayyybe the first time i heard Pissgraveβbut DiS maintains that occult menace over endless repeat listens.
Sunset Boulevard
Gojira
Eraserhead
Night of the Living Dead
Clerks
honorable mentions to Bride of Frankenstein and Ed Wood which were both mentioned below.
christ, may i be even half the smokeshow at age 46 that Natasha Lyonne is
i think this is probably my all-time favorite Supes story. and imo stories that focus on this angle are so infinitely more interesting than yet another deconstruction/dark edgy evil take on Superman. i say that while also really liking The Boys, but still.
