personally, i ended up moving my actual continued work onto Patreon, but my Substack still exists as an archive of my past work and i don’t feel conflicted about that. there are also alternatives to YouTube like Nebula. i don’t begrudge anyone who uses either platform on some moral purity level.

let me try. i think, most of the time, it is not useful political action to pick fights with people who are on your side, and i think shitting on people for still using Substack—a very popular and accessible service—is more about ego than anything else.

while i agree with your conclusion, i wish to emphasize that i am critiquing those who find it more important to pick holes in the fabric of their coalition over trivialities than to build solidarity. i find this tendency toxic on both an organizational and personal level.
