As sad as I am about the death of UChicago, my alma mater and one of the world's great universities, there is something tragically poetic about the university being done in by the very same neoliberal logic that the UChicago econ department did more than almost any other institution to foster.
The Academic BlueSky community has been a terrific resource and support system in so many ways in recent years.

Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy writing until I'm deep into the process, but it really can be hugely rewarding not just getting your thoughts on paper but then pruning and sculpting until you're managing to say exactly what you want to say without anything extra
There are now solid drafts of 4 of my 5 dissertation chapters 😮💨
Just to keep getting feedback, and seeing how the pieces keep fitting together.
And also prepare my job market materials 😅

For those unconditionally cheering the attacks on Iran, remember that our early strikes in Afghanistan and Iraq were “successful”. But we ended up getting dragged into costly wars that created more terrorists than we killed. The American people haven’t forgotten that.
