Thatโs fair! I see both when referring to growth but OD600 is about 85-90% of the time.
Another question #MicroSky! When presenting growth curves, do we use OD600 or A600. We are technically measuring the Absorbance soโฆ.. Let me know what you think. My lab is still new enough to implement the change before we start publishing.
Followed back! I had so many new followers ๐ฎโ๐จ
Hey #MicroSky! Iโm at Phages and like any great conference, cool science ideas come up. Does anyone have a lead on how I can get the E. coli Keio collection pre-mixed for a screen?? Send me a DM ๐๐พ
Currently in my last week of maternity leave. Excited to get back to work but hate leaving lil man at home.
Final call for early abstracts is tomorrow!

Thank you! My research tech, Mark Watson, created it.
Thank you! Yes, yes! I will.
Burton lab in big black letters. DNA helix connects B of Burton and L of Lab. Between the two words there is smaller text that reads Large Roles Small proteins.
Since we have had a big boom to bsky let me reintroduce myself.
I am Aisha Burton and a new PI at Cornell Micro. Currently on maternity leave but my two research techs are keeping the research going ๐๐พ. My lab is interested in studying small proteins and how they impact stress responses in bacteria
Here's a starter pack of Black Microbiologists. A work in progress as people are migrating over from other platforms. Let me know if you want to be added! go.bsky.app/EcYiqNV
Have fun!! Having major FOMO!
Hopefully, I can go next year and wonโt be on maternity leave with a 4 week old.
I posted this a few days ago on this site, but it was before the great Twitter Exodus of 2024. Lousy timing, I suppose... ๐
Here it is again, for all the #microsky folks who may have missed it. It's a pretty nifty story, >8 years in the making!
Iโll be there!
I saw TOMY autoclaves at ASM. It isnโt a tabletop/bench top but does have a small footprint. Considering getting one but donโt have the space in my lab right now.
Thanks Fรฉlix!! ๐๐พ
Yes! That would be awesome!
We're having a bit of a tough quarter over at Skype a Scientist. I'm writing grants nonstop over here but won't know if it's working for a couple months.
The collapse of social media has made our business model of many small donors beak. In the meantime, your support is VERY appreciated.
Aisha Burton in a blue dress and gold Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. blazer. Her hair is in a twist out fro, she has on pearls, and blue pumps.
As itโs #BlackinMicro Week let me reintroduce myself:
Hi!! ๐๐พ I am Aisha and a 5th year post doc at the NIH and will be transitioning to Assistant Research Professor of Microbiology at Cornell starting Jan. 1st. My research looks at how small proteins help regulate bacterial stress responses.
I think Howard is trying to change that within the next year or two.
Thank you!
Thank you! Now on to the post doc pubs ๐
Whoo hoo! Itโs out!
Enjoyed my time at the #EEJust #UNCFSTEM Celebration of African Americans in the Life Sciences.
artwork with queer scientists working on a bunch of projects. they are a diverse group with pronoun badges and rainbow colored hair. The posted says Queer Science and asks for High school students! join queer scientists for demos and experiments at GaTech!
Excited to be back organizing a new chapter of Queer Science at GaTech! Loved my team at UMN and have been missing them since moving. LGBTQ+ connections in the greater Atlanta area appreciated for help advertising <3 queerscience.lgbtqia.gatech.edu

Post doctoral position ad for the Adams lab. To apply, email Philip Adams at the NIH. The background is blue with the NIH logo in the right hand bottom corner. At the top, there is a purple spirochete illustration and another in the background.
Philip isnโt on Bluesky yet but is hiring a postdoc ๐๐พ
Email him a CV and names of 3 references.
Just found two papers use the same silver stained gel ๐ฌ and sent it to Retraction Watch ๐
When I attended large classes (300+), I would sit in the front and go to office hours, review sessions the prof held, and any post exam review by the prof. That helped a lot in them getting to know me.
