The UCP managed to create a crisis in healthcare & education due to poor planning & decision-making.
Now theyβve added a $9.4 billion deficit to the budget, doubling Albertaβs provincial debt & pushing it over $100 billion.
#abpoli #ableg #alberta #economy #finance
The UCP squandered Albertaβs near-record resource wealth and still produced a $9.4 -billion deficitβa failure of basic financial management.
Somehow, under some of strongest economic conditions in a generation, life is going to cost you more.

Danielle Smith is doubling Alberta's debt with nothing to show for it.
The UCP government has spent so much money to deliver so little for Albertans.
After seven years under the UCP, life is demonstrably harder for Albertans, and this budget does not help in any way.

Today in the Legislature, I spoke about the crisis in our ERs and the lives being lost, including Prashant Sreekumar.
Doctors have been calling for a state of emergency, yet the UCP refused our emergency debate, saying there was βother House business.β
People are dying. This must be the priority.
All Albertans know that our healthcare system is in crisis. The Premier should prioritize addressing the backlogs in emergency rooms. Instead, she continues to make shockingly expensive mistakes.
#abpoli #ableg
It is clear that the UCP has no plan to fix our health care system. Instead, they have brought in aggressive American-style private health care bills, which will force Albertans to pay to get to the front of the line. #ableg #abpoli
It's been over one month since the UCP government promised to hire triage doctors, who were supposed to be in place on February 1st, but nothing has been done. They've been more focused on hiring fancy consultants and coming up with new buzz words, while dismantling public health care. #abhealth
Even though the health care system is in crisis, the UCP shut down the Legislature early because they didn't want to talk about people dying in Alberta's emergency rooms.
We need solutions, not a government that shuts down debate.
This response is unacceptable. This UCP governmentβs priorities are clearly not aligned with what Albertans need: safe, timely access to health care.
Today the UCP said they didn't want to debate the health care crisis in our emergency departments. What did they do instead? Adjourned the legislature early.
Once upon a time, Danielle Smith wanted to double Alberta's population.

WATCH LIVE as Rakhi Pancholi, Deputy Leader of Alberta's New Democrats, responds to the Premier's address, calling on Smith to end these desperate distractions and call the election.

After six years in power, a fourth budget, and a third multi-billion-dollar deficit, Danielle Smith will blame everyone but herself.
Albertans deserve a Premier who takes responsibility, not one who tells us to make hard choices while refusing to own up to her own mistakes.

This is a national tragedy and I am absolutely heartbroken. I join all Canadians in standing with the people of Tumbler Ridge. I send my condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this horrific event, and I am praying for a quick recovery for those injured. (1/2)
It was great to wrap up last week meeting with Caelen, a MacEwan University social work student on practicum in my colleague MLA Lorne Dachβs office. I first met her when I visited her Gr. 6 class. We had a thoughtful conversation about the issues impacting our community.
Danielle Smithβs threat to withhold funding for judicial appointments jeopardizes access to justice for Albertans. Politicizing our courts undermines fairness and delays the legal process. Full stop.
Let's go, Team Canada! π¨π¦

Albertans are proud Canadians.
Separatism doesnβt reduce cost of living.
Separatism doesnβt build hospital beds.
Separatism doesnβt hire teachers.
Separatism scares away investment, costs us jobs & puts us in a weak position.
Alberta New Democrats are firmly on Team Canada.
