But that's a wholehost of different issues: the stuff doesn't just disappear on de-orbit, it goes into atmosphere or the sea ☹️

Also: satellites pollute imaging from LEO space telescopes (and there's only so many space telescopes you can send to L2)

This is _so_ important. Slightly disturbing they have no idea what the career landscape is for ECRs.

It was totally boring for me until I was about 16 and learned better. Astronomy seemed like pseudoscience back then as well, and yet here we are now 🤷‍♀️

Even in space, telescopes can’t escape photobombers Light reflected from satellites pollutes the images taken by telescopes orbiting Earth, as well as those on the ground. Without mitigations, this will only get worse.

There exist coordinated efforts to secure time for LSST follow-up at major observatories. A spacecraft to intercept new interesting things is a thing.
Bah! LSST Solar System Science Collaboration even has a Technosignatures Think Tank. There are so many things that are a thing that AL disregards.

Just going to say that it is hurtful when a systematic study effort by the global small-body community, with many of the campaigns led by women, with results being pushed to free open-source arXiv & data repos for scicomm as quickly as possible, is described as lacking coordination/communication

I'll for global coordination for ISO follow-up, but it's telling that no one who's actually coordinating follow-up was actually asked to participate in this proposal or thought of to be even suggested as names on committees in this proposal

I’ve been lucky but I’m unusual. Many friends followed the standard advice, only to find that tenure came too late for their biological clock. Others broke under the pressure of trying to balance it all, reluctantly leaving academia for more family friendly careers. 7/9🧵
