The smoking part I’ve never questioned. Smoking a cigar is an enjoyable experience at times for the flavor alone. Throw in the he likely can’t get cancer, and I get is smoking habit.

The effects of alcohol consumption is dehydration. So I wonder if the healing factor came make up for a lack of water in your body or not?

I wonder why Wolverine is shown drinking all the time in the movies? Wouldn't his healing factor keep him from getting drunk and even buzzed? Why is he wasting so much money on whiskey and beer when it shouldn't be doing anything for him?
