Our communities have the right to be safe — not targeted. When a president punishes cities because of their party affiliation, that’s not law and order, that’s political retaliation. We will not be silenced, and we will not back down.

No businesses were looted. Graffiti was cleaned up immediately. All on-the-ground reports confirm the protests were peaceful. I will not stand by while young people in my city are criminalized for rightfully expressing their anger and sense of betrayal by this country.
And I call on my colleagues - who like to point fingers - to set aside personal egos and recommit to our shared responsibility: protecting our residents, standing up for civil liberties, and doing the real work of keeping families together.
