If you’re a New York City parent of a 2022 or 2023 baby, you probably can’t look up (or down at your phone) without seeing Mayor Mamdani’s face over the last six weeks. He was everywhere. Doing adorable press conferences with preschoolers, building snowmen with kids after the blizzard, partnering with influencers, making videos in imperfect but well-intentioned Spanish with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and advertising across LinkNYC kiosks, ferries, and in the backs of cars across the city. Days before the Feb. 27 deadline, reports of robo-calls directly from Mamdani swept through the parent group chats as people were reminded to sign up for 3-K or pre-K before it was too late. This marketing blitz — combined with aggressive on-the-ground outreach and community engagement — wasn’t just for show. It was instrumental to the mayor’s goal of achieving universal child care, and further proof that in 2026, politicians being good communicators is a necessity.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

There should be a size grouping for boys who are 13-14 and going through the “growing-by-stretching” phase of development. Child size pants are too short. Men’s size pants are too big in the waist.

It’s so frustrating/discouraging. The new guy even said “yeah, BMI is a pretty outdated measurement…”

We just left a practice because the pediatrician told my kid to “lay off sweets” because their BMI was slightly higher than “normal,” without asking what their diet is, how much exercise they get, anything else.

And then we tried a new practice, and we got something very similar.

Is it possible to find a physician for adolescents who do not use BMI as a metric? Is that a thing?

My kid gets so anxious around going to the dr for fear they're gonna bring up BMI, and they always do.

As flash floods intensify, current alert systems put lives at risk, including in New England - The Boston Globe Flash floods are a hallmark of climate change, and they can come on fast, seemingly without warning. The ability of officials to get a warning out can be the difference between life and death.

We know intense rainfall events are increasing in New England and that our mitigation and preparedness efforts are not keeping up. It's one of the reasons I advocate so strongly for greater state and local investment in emergency management.
