Today, most students attend comprehensive schools with students of all attainment levels. However, the grammar system survives in a handful of counties. The Blair government banned new grammar schools but some exceptions were made by the Conservative government.
Grammar school was/is a type of publicly funded secondary school. Students sat an exam called the 11+ at the end of primary to determine if they would go to vocationally focused secondary modern or an academically focused grammar school. This system was mostly replaced in the 1970s

I mean I get that but as far as I understand, there was no devolved government in N Ireland between 1975 and 1997. Is that not right?
Definitely didn’t mean to condescend. Let me know if there is somewhere I can read more about devolution in N Ireland in the 1970s. I am very interested in UK constitution but definitely still learning.
