There’s no excuse for chopping down a thing of beauty. And I don’t just mean the Sycamore Gap tree Talking therapies save lives, keep people out of hospital, help them back into work. So why is NHS England cutting them in its ‘financial reset’?

I’m currently isolating due to COVID, positive for 6 days … only my 2nd infection & not as bad as the 1st 20/12 ago (13 days positive with high temperatures the first week) but probably because 7/12 post vaccination rather than 12/12. Nonetheless debilitating - going to pay for 6/12 vaccinations!

"It no longer exists"

The Covid Inquiry heard evidence this week that the testing infrastructure built up in 2020 has been completely dismantled.

Prof. Alan McNally: "If Sars 3 happens in December, we will be exactly where we were in January 2020"

An insult to those we lost.

This is a terrible terrible destructive decision.
These sorts of long running research programmes take decades to build and their insights accumulate over decades too - the longer they run, the more valuable they become.

This is knowledge vandalism. Nothing new and shiny can replace it.

Assisted dying debate: The UK’s real problem with palliative care The UK was once ranked the best country for end-of-life care - but, say experts, that has all changed

Grateful to be interviewed for this deep dive by the BBC's Nick Triggle into the threadbare state of NHS palliative care services.

4 in 10 hospitals don't even have a 7-day palliative care service.

This is a travesty, @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social. (1/2)

I've just been told by a friend that she is no longer allowed to use any air purifiers anywhere in the hospital where her husband is receiving chemo from unmasked nurses.

As Editor-in-Chief of Evidence Based Nursing and someone in the clinically extremely vulnerable group I find this unbelievable.

I look forward to working with the government and survivors like Claire to prevent tragedies like this ever happening again.

Former vaccines tsar describes ‘open warfare’ within UK government during Covid pandemic Dame Kate Bingham, who led the vaccine taskforce in 2020, said the clinically vulnerable were deprioritised and goals were not followed

"There was “open warfare” between UK government departments during the pandemic, the former vaccines tsar has said, adding the failure to prioritise the needs of clinically vulnerable, immunocompromised individuals was ethically and morally wrong"

I wrote a quick post about the latest UKHSA data on the current flu wave.

christinapagel.substack.com/p/its-defini...

TLDR: we are in a very big flu wave, but Covid levels are low & RSV decreasing. But we should consider extending eligibilty for annual flu (and RSV, Covid) vaccines.
