The Irondequoit Police Department is alerting the community to potential scammers using smart glasses. The department says people wearing these glasses can film you without your knowledge or consent and use that information to take advantage of your identity or money. They recommend people raise their awareness in checkout lines, near ATMs or when doing anything with passwords or account access on their smartphones. The IPD provided the following tips to help protect yourself: • Watch for people lingering at ATMs or self-checkouts without conducting transactions • Cover your pin at ATMs and checkouts • Use tap-to-pay as much as possible • Enable transaction alerts on your banking and credit card apps • The recordings can be used later in identity theft or deepfake scams
