On #InternationalWomensDay, we remember Claire.
Claire died in May 2025 aged 42 from uterine leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that is often diagnosed late.
When Claire first presented with symptoms, she was told it was IBS.
As months passed, she had to insist on further investigation.

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month π
Ovarian cancer isnβt obvious. The symptoms can feel like things we all experience from time to time, bloating, discomfort, changes in appetite, which is why theyβre sometimes missed.

Weβre at the #PlaidCymru conference this weekend.
Cancer patients in Wales are still waiting too long. Outcomes in lung, less survivable, and gynaecological cancers remain stubbornly poor, with too many families pushed into financial crisis.

Only 1 in 5 people diagnosed with cancer in Wales say they received information about psychological support.
Cancer affects your mind as well as your body.
Mental health support must be consistent across Wales, not postcode dependent.

Six cancers in Wales have a five-year survival rate of under 20%.
That should stop us in our tracks.
Lung. Pancreatic. Liver. Brain. Oesophageal. Stomach.
We need focused action on the cancers with the worst outcomes.

Our priorities were shaped by the All Wales Cancer Community:
β’ Gynaecological cancers
β’ Less survivable cancers
β’ Money, practical support and cancer
β’ Emotional wellbeing & cancer
β’ Lung cancer
These are not abstract policy issues; they are lived realities across Wales affecting many.

Cancer in Wales is rising.
120,000 people are living with cancer today.
Around 20,000 are diagnosed each year.
By the end of the next Senedd term, that could reach 230,000.
Hereβs where action is urgently needed π

World Cancer Day is a reminder that outcomes donβt just depend on treatment, they depend on timing.
In Wales, delays in gynaecological cancer care remain severe. In November, only 32% of patients started treatment within the 62-day target, with wide variation between Health Boards.

Plenary
The Senedd is the democratically elected body that represents the interests of Wales and its people, makes laws for Wales, agrees Welsh taxes and holds the Welsh Government to account.
A 90-second statement on less survivable cancers was led yesterday morning in the Senedd by John Griffiths MS.
These issues often donβt get enough airtime, this one is worth hearing.
