I have no interest in this kind of argument until/unless we know what the launch pricing will be.

Counterpoint -- Rivian is actually doing something a little different and special with its products. There's real demand for it. The question is how far will that demand soften if pricing comes in high and/or if the US economy slides.
I'm sure this is fine, nothing to see here.
Me using my new Eureka Mignon Zero 65: Man this grinder is fantastic.
Me cleaning my new Eureka Mignon Zero 65: Good thing I have a huge toolbox and experience with Italian exotic cars.
Damn. That really is a superb color.
"Return of submarine war" = the first torpedo attack by a US sub in almost 81 years. Long time.
I could get behind the idea of a well done roof removal. The 'Cuda stuff is just ick.
Remember they can turn up that Ferrari engine too. Not sure how much it'll do for their chassis, but we'll see.
Yep. And flying mirrors aside, nobody seriously thinks the cars will be hazards on track. They're fast ENOUGH, and Checo and Bottas are steady veterans.
And the slow isn't really SLOW -- they don't seem to be in danger of the 107% rule. If both cars qualify and both finish the grand prix, they can declare this first race weekend a total success.
100% agree
This is the correct answer, sadly!
And, like, the Cadillac is kinda slow but it seems fine?
Good news: can be reasonably sure BLS numbers arenβt being manipulated.
If those recession questions get any louder, US auto sales will be feeling it quickly.
The economic story just changed dramatically.
Payrolls fell -92k in Feb. Jan growth was revised down by -4k to +126k. And Dec revisions subtracted -64k to -17k.
Unemployment rate up a tick to 4.4%.
Recession questions are back on the menu
(My own take is that it appears to be a great product and should sell well -- IF pricing is kept under control.)
A lot of people have been waiting for the R2 -- I'm sure they have a deep reservation list and it should convert well as long as the initial pricing isn't insane.
The question is what happens after those early orders are filled.
A chart that shows how long it took some of the most popular EVs in the US to reach 20,000 units sold. Tesla's model Y did it in about 4 months. Rivian is planning to do it with the R2 in about 6. The full list: Ford Mustang Mach-E 8 Ford F-150 Lightning 10 Chevy Equinox EV 8 Chevy Blazer EV 16 Tesla Model 3 11 Kia EV6 11 Hyundai Ioniq 5 10 VW ID 4 13 Rivian R2 (Projected) 6 Tesla Model Y 4 Kia EV9 10 Honda Prologue 6 Original Chevy Bolt 11
NEW from me: Rivian said it plans to deliver between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 SUVs this year.
With sales expected to start in June, it'd be the 2nd-fastest EV launch in US history, behind Tesla's uber-successful Model Y and matching the heavily incentivized Prologue.

The West Village is kind of its own reality.
It isn't just the white supremacy and trans hate and etc (though that's hugely important). The stores are also cluttered messes now with iffy inventories and a lot of products cut from the shelves. Mismanagement shows in a lot of ways.
And the Israelis are messing that up with all the assassinations, because their plan is chaos. Whee.
I've spent most of my life in or near walkable northeast US cities. Professionally (as an auto-industry analyst) it's something I'm well aware of, but on a personal level it's kind of surreal to travel and be reminded that most of the US isn't like that.
So what? People who have to dress for work get to have decent clothes. Find something else to get mad about.

Apologies to all my friends on Substack. I'd gritted my teeth and supported you because I love your work. But Substack's partnership with Polymarket is the last straw for me.
I had forgotten about those buttons. Doing the same now. Thank you for reminding us all.
Obviously.
Weird!
It's always a good sign when the military doesn't want to fight the politicians' war.
No serious news org should be using that name, unless they're quoting Hegseth et al.
