Every single bracket, and connector had countless off axis features and 3d contours that inflated the cost 100x beyond what it would otherwise take to machine. The amount of money they threw at us to make junk parts was unbelievable.

They spent tens of thousands of dollars for us to make dozens of custom one off brackets that were clearly drawn up as bandaids when their assemblies didn't fit together, instead of resigning their projects to use standardized or off the shelf hardware.

CAD models riddled with unnecessary edges from misaligned booleans. Virtually no blueprints. Assemblies that didn't fit together because no one thought to look at tolerance stacks. Impossible angles, un-machinable features.

I worked for a prototyping machine shop that made parts for meta's vr hardware. Some of the worst designed parts I've ever had to manufacture, churned out by a constantly shifting team of designers with absolutely no frame of reference for how much something should cost to make.
