Who remembers this? The fear of nuclear war was real in the 1960s. As a child, this was part of my life. By the time I was in fifth grade I knew it was pointless. By the time I was 21, I joined the No Nukes protests.

This picture is from a series I am making of childhood memories.

Dixie's vintage fashion stall on Cambridge market depicted in oil pastel in 2005. I did a series of these and I think all of them found buyers.

Oil pastel of the vintage fashion stall that was the a colourful highlight on Cambridge market for many years. The proprietors have other vintage outlets now. This was sold a while ago.

Iceland in black & white

As the years have gone by, I notice that I think more about simplify my composition in my images when im out photographing.. and very often do i go for black and white.

I just discovered oil pastels and these are my first two paintings. I al a digital artist mostly and wanted to do something more tactile. This works!

Italian photographer Valerio Minato spent six years planning a perfectly aligned shot of the Moon with Turin’s Basilica of Superga and Monviso. Weather delays thwarted annual chances until December 2023, when a crescent Moon with visible da Vinci glow completed his long-envisioned composition

What does that say about us? The Berlin Wall was grey on the Eastern Side but bloomed with color and graffiti on the Western side where the right to speak freely was celebrated.

Looking up into the tree canopy at Todoriki Shrine in Tokyo. Red momiji leaves and cool blueish tones behind. The closest leaves are sharp, everything else above is bokeh.

Two cackling dragons soar above a golden, sparkling midnight faire. The dragons have stolen a golden flag and a string of fairy lights. Below, faire-goers (elves, humans, ogres, and fairies) play games, encounter unicorns, eat food, drink, and celebrate. The colors are deep blues, vibrant reds, and glowing golds.

Cosmos flowers back in 2010 on the local Keihin Canal, which is just 5mins walk from our house. Pink and white flowers in the foreground, the canal and warehouse opposite in the background. All rendered as bokeh with this 80mm f/1.9 Mamiya lens on a medium format digital camera.

This was shot with an 80mm f/1.9 Mamiya lens on an 2010 Mamiya ZD digital back. The bokeh is extreme. A blurred, dark female figure stands by the waterside. A blurred male figure is seated to her left. The overall feel of the photo is cool, with a cool white balance. Making the orange of the flowers pop even more.

Four and half minute exposure from the top of our block of flats in Ōmori, Tokyo. Looking south, we see the Rout 15 road and Keikyu train line. The 300mm lens on my Hasselblad H4D-40 has compressed the depth of this scene. The blocks of flats you see in the background are 1km from where I shot this photo.

Right, last picture post before I take a shower and head to bed for an early night. Full day workshop with a client from the US tomorrow. And I'm just feeling a bit tired today.
