On this note, I recently learned that the way that many Netflix series are run and then abruptly cancelled is similar to the way money is laundered.

Gosh. If all our entertainment and arts were simply ways for billionnaires and conglomerates to avoid tax, that'd explain an awful lot, wouldn't it?

Last night of this in Glasgow before it moves to Edinburgh from Monday 9th March. If you've ever wanted to get a proper sense of the Greek Myths we read as kids, this is a retelling and a half of the tale of Dionysus and the King of Thebes. Ewan Downie's a mesmerizing performer.

there's an old adage: "when a product appears to be free, you're the product" (usually, this means the product makes its money through advertising)

in light of the last few years, we can add an addendum: "if a business is run at a loss, it's another business's operating expense"

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.

Well, Othello has significant issues as a play, but might be Shakespeare's best final act.

Well, so far Toby Young isn't in my top three for this. David Harewood, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Luke Treadaway, all magnificent. Jones isn't really stretching himself so far.

Sitting in the cinems with the world's biggest small Pepsi, waiting for #NTlive #Othello to start. Yes, Toby Jones as Iago drew me in, as it's one I've actually never read before.

It says something that one of the least bizarre things that has happened this week is Centre Parcs soundtracking two kids looking at a rabbit with 'Somewhere' from West Side Fucking Story.

🚨 It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work.

This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.

Please spread the word.

Help a Black trans kid afford care In the face of NHS failings, Isaac and his family need your help to afford trans healthcare.

Please share - and donate if you can!

I'm helping to raise money for Isaac - a Black trans kid seeking vital healthcare in England.

Isaac is lucky enough to have a very supportive family, but they have all been screwed time and time again by the NHS and UK authorities.

Any contribution will help!

Amanda Seyfried nails bits of the 1700s Manchester accent in The Testament of Ann Lee – a linguist explains how we know The accent has been distracting for some because it sounds different to modern Mancunians.

A really good piece here from Danielle Turton on recreation of historical accents and why the choices of accents and features matter, especially when they're 'regional' rather than RP.
