Just saw The Bride! and THIS is the brilliant madness that "Wuthering Heights"... wasn't
π°ββοΈ
The literary and cinematic riffs; Buckley (and the rest of the cast, esp. Huston); and the intelligence, depth, and punk of the feminism; all SO much more than reviews have suggested

Given the personal focus of the article, Dickens's treatment of Catherine (his wife) is an odd omission.
What he was drawn to in theory, or even proselytised for in public, wasn't necessarily consistent with his private behaviour.
Perhaps that can be contextualised, but it should be mentioned.

Party's over for another year π
Congratulations and thanks to Laz, Keith, Taka, SΓ©bastien and his Fun Run, Damian and his shoelessness, and everyone out there in Tennessee.
Here's to wondering if the course can win three in a row in 2027?

... and I was over-optimistic about having starters for a fourth loop. Barkley eats its young for another year.
πͺ¦
Obviously hope Damian and SΓ©bastien make the Fun Runs, but also glad to see the course do its thing. It's what makes the finishers so special: almost no-one gets a prize.

The celebrations will continue. for at least a(n attempt at a) third loop
π₯³
Given the quality and experience of these three, and the probable teamwork, I'm guessing we'll get to see some loop four starters.
π€
Barkley may, of course, have other ideas...

As the memory of a 14 year old girl's emotional response to reading (the first half) of the novel, it's (largely) fun...

... whatever the film's merits, I *highly* commend the use of inverted commas in the title to emphasise: an adaptation it is not!

As beautiful as they were powerful: Jon Kudelkaβs political cartoons were made with true conviction
The award-winning cartoonist Jon Kudelka died in Hobart on Sunday, aged 53. Over 30 years, his work resisted the polarisation of the contemporary Australian media.

It took too long for me to appreciate that focusing for extended periods (on a text, on a performance, on an essay) is a specific skill that takes time and application to develop: it's not just reading!
Finally recognised the enormous payoff: time spent working became *so* much more productive.

Carney's speech might be the most clear-eyed since 2016...
...but Havel's (which Carney quotes) is timeless.
It's far (far) more radical - and asks us to ask far (far) more of ourselves as individuals, not just as citizens
