writing a direct sequel of these same stories directly contradicts this message. you're taking that freedom from them when you assign them a new predetermined fate

its main cast is made up of characters whose lives were supposed to be predetermined and who are learning what to do with their new freedom. It's about finding purpose.

A future is not given to you. It is something you must take for yourself.

I can appreciate not everything being spelled out and a lack of handholding to a specific answer. I think stories like automata thrive in ambiguity even if it means you might not get every answer you want

I always thought the people begging for an automata sequel missed the point of the story. Infinite possibilities, unlimited choices you can make in your life, having it all written in stone (i.e. a concrete plot) kind of breaks that freedom
