Both of these 'therapies' felt similar to me, and it was not shocking to find they had the same person behind them. It is why I personally don't trust neurotypical opinions on autism or non-queer opinions on queerness, especially medical ones, unless they have an awful lot to show for it.
Queer and autistic person here - Lovaas also began what is now ABA (applied behavioral analysis), which is basically the same thing as conversion therapy: the breaking of someone into a mold as an alternative to having an "undesirable" population. Usually at risk to their self and their life.
1. Try and rush through legislation that makes voting without certain forms of ID possible.
