Another #KYE tongue bath of a “reformed” paleo-con. The show has always suffered from some basic conceptual incoherence, but post-Hochman I’ve just found it impossible to listen to. Now the are vouching for their guest’s lack of anti-semitism - hope it works out for you, Sam!
It’s pretty prescient to read your review right after listening to a podcast on William Gibson’s short story «The Gernsbach Continuum»

Of course! I hadn’t considered the EA connection for their house philosopher
Dumb tubes are such Twentieth century tech. Today we use precision guided munitions.

Bluesky user shinobi602 says: "Video game stocks are suddenly crashing today with the launch of Google's Project Genie as investors think games will start magically getting made with AI" and then shows four images of stock numbers going down for take two, roblox, cd pronekt, and unity.
From Fortune: "A sharp selloff in tech stocks on Thursday underscored investors' exhaustion with the "spend now, profit later" model that has propelled the AI bull market for three years. Microsoft led the retreat, with its shares plummeting 12% by noon, erasing more than $440 billion in market value, a collapse it hasn't seen since the pandemic. The Nasdaq was down almost 2% at time of writing."
Also from Fortune: "The sentiment shift is not limited to Redmond. Oracle has seen its shares halved from their September highs, erasing nearly $463 billion in value. Once a darling of the AI trade, Oracle has also struggled with investor confidence that the massive data centers it is building for OpenAI will get funded eventually. Additionally, the timeline for several projects has reportedly slipped to 2028, creating a gap between the company's heavy debt-funded spending and the arrival of actual revenue. OpenAI has made about $1.4 trillion in commitments to procure both the energy and compute it needs to fuel its operations. But its revenue barely crossed $20 billion in 2025."
Right, so video game company stocks are crashing because the power of AI supposedly renders them irrelevant. Meanwhile, Microsoft and Oracle stocks are crashing because they spent too much on AI and the market knows they'll never make a return. The economy is absolutely hosed

So it’s some custom diff css in GH diff? Should absolutely be fixed
My passion side project is about the Saturday night soirées Charles Babbage hosted at his London home from the early 1830s until the early 1850s. There were so many fascinating people at those soirées. Last week I ran the larp I'm developing about it for our students. jilltxt.net/larping-babb...
Can you show the result of ‘git diff —color-words’ locally? Does it correctly highlight the change?
Given your last sentence, there are probably some interesting ideas from MS Exchange and Lotus Notes since they were also building arbitrary apps on their workflow infostores
“But what deeply troubles me now is that for all the steps we've taken toward integration, I've come to believe that we are integrating into a burning house."
Dr. King said this famous quote on March 27th, 1968, mere days before his murder. But the context around the quote is interesting...
You start the thread with «would» but end it with «might eventually» - but those are two very different scenarios!

Will Arnett was on Conan and told a story about how Conan dealt with the death of his parents by accusing Jason Bateman of killing them. It’s so funny.
Letter to the Guardian. The protection of badgers has a long pedigree (Report, 29 August). Arthur Gore, known as "Boofy", the eighth Earl of Arran, was a fanatical defender of them. He was also a tireless campaigner for the rights of homosexuals. In 1967 he managed to push through a law in the Lords that decriminalised homosexuality but failed to pass a bill to outlaw the cruel hunting of badgers. When asked why he had not received enough support for his badger bill, he replied: "Not many badgers in the House of Lords." Tony Lywood Keswick, Cumbria
Found when sorting an old drive. I still, very occasionally, say 'not many badgers in the House of Lords' and this is why:
