If you didn't know me, and you saw me on tv or radio, or at a social event, you'd never know
If someone told you I struggle with all this, and you met me and thought I seemed fine, you'd probably not believe them
3/7 A doctor told me the bullying I experienced has created a trauma response in social situations - particularly if someone is even slightly rude - where I end up having a severe fight or flight response
Physically, I get a rush of adrenaline, my stomach churns like I'm on a rollercoaster
2/7 At one point my anxiety was so bad on a train I couldn't get off, and my family members were chasing the train in a car - I was too overwhelmed to move
I find trains/public transport overstimulating and overwhelming generally anyway, and avoid them as much as I can as a result
1/7 Here's an example of a disability affecting a person in a way you wouldn't expect
I have quite severe social anxiety (linked to my ASD/ADHD & trauma) and it affects every aspect of my life (down to answering the phone)
I take medication to help with both my depression &the severe anxiety
The whole thing is so icky, and the actual people affected by what happened are just lost in one of the worst discourses I’ve seen in a long time, made worse by the current social and political climate
Somehow, I don’t think the same people who want to go hell for leather on slashing disability benefits care about Tourette’s syndrome
Somehow, I think they’re instead relishing the very rare opportunity they can look like they’re making the moral case by defending someone who used the n word
… use any and every opportunity to attack the community
An involuntary, split second racist tic is not the same as years of antisemitism which was only recently by West claimed as an episode
You’re not fooling anyone - give up and go home you utter creeps!
