Abu Simbel was built for Ramses II (1279β1213 BCE) and then in the 1960s cut into over 1000 pieces and rebuilt on higher ground to avoid the flooding of Lake Nasser. The Greater Temple is 4 statues of Ramses and the Small Temple was built for his wife Nefertari.
