They've now killed four people -- three U.S. citizens and a Mexican national. They've shot several more.
They've lied about all of them. They haven't shaded the truth. They haven't "misled" us. They've brazenly, knowingly lied while in possession of the evidence disproving their lies.
America has a long history of pointless and wasteful military adventurism. And in our quest to normalize Trump we’ve stuck his Iran war in that box: “another war, just like the rest.” It’s not like the rest. It’s an act of insanity, rogue state behavior. Don’t know how this ends until we admit it.
War is the worst of human endeavors, but the reason militaries do not fight by pure thuggery, as the United States now does, is that it ultimately puts us more at risk and defiles us as a country. What are we even fighting for if we are nothing but the biggest bully on the block?

The U.S. government is in the hands of a disturbed authoritarian who is surrounded by people who either share his delusions, are too sycophantic to confront him, or believe the president’s delusions serve just fine as a vehicle for their own zealotry and ideological extremism.
Even putting aside the implications for the laws of war, someone who describes mass killing in this way is not well, nor is the society that empowers that person to kill.
Put simply, he’s as immature and ignorant as his boss. Such people should never be in charge of anything.

It is difficult to overstate how quickly & thoroughly & shamefully we have normalized “the president can use federal funding as a cudgel to punish blue states & only blue states on his whim” in our polity & society. Yet another thing that would have ended any other presidency in the modern era.

This is pretty critical. If (as the administration claims) courts must defer to presidential assertions that an “emergency” exists, no matter how obviously false or pretextual, we have effectively rewritten “emergency powers” statutes as permanent, unlimited delegations of legislative authority.
The Constitution says "No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law." Presidents who violate the Constitution should be impeached and removed from office.
This allows the Trump administration to literally condition citizenship on what it defines as acceptable speech

Unease about the abuse of the jet is not new. For example, a former FBI leader, William Sessions, was fired by President Clinton when it was adjudged he had used the jet for personal use. And yet: Patel has used the jet for recreational purposes, including golfing outings in Scotland, hunting trips to (I’m not making this up) Boondoggle Ranch in Texas, or heading to the Olympics in Italy to watch ice hockey. ICE’s unchecked power won’t rein itself in. If we want real oversight, accountability, and an end to intimidation tactics that target vulnerable communities, we have to demand it—loudly and publicly.
This decision is a win for the rule of law and a reminder that when this or any president undermines constitutional checks, whether by overstepping on tariffs, defying the Congressional power of the purse, or other obvious abuses, it’s our job to stop it.
Whatever your views on trade, the idea that Trump needed to impose tariffs to address an “emergency” was always transparently ridiculous. He’s been unilaterally raising taxes on Americans based on his mood or who offends him.

I honestly think one reason Millennials are so angry about all this is that many of us grew up during the brief period in American history where the official line was that we had won history *because* of our values, and most of us actually internalized that.
