Any heat pump geeks know how to translate Vaillant’s ErP data on seasonal energy efficiency into a U.K. SCoP? If I assume a PEF of 2.5 (is that correct for UK given this is a German company?) they still quote for ‘colder climates’ and ‘warmer climates’ without any data to tell you what that means.

Truth is inequality feels unfair but does create wealth. Everyone with equal capital means limited new inventions and investments. So low growth. 🤷♂️
There is no world where we solve climate change without consuming less, including driving less. No amount of magical paint can make a car move without substantial external energy input. Ride a bike!

Let’s keep clear the difference between Opinions (matters for policy and debate), Beliefs (things you think are true but lack hard evidence), and Science (things for which there is overwhelming evidence and could kill you if you ignore them: like climate change)
Such a sad article. Firstly it mocks (rightly) an EPC system that penalises shift from gas to electric. But then it makes the errors of 1) saying heat pumps only work in new buildings. Complete bollocks! 2) it ignores WHY we need heat pumps - to save planet, not money.

I suppose I belong to a generation which didn’t expect every teacher to be evaluated in every course. As students, & as a lecturer, we all knew pretty quickly who was good and who wasn’t. My sadness is the loss of both civility and the triumph of the survey over what we know.

But I think you’re missing my point - or perhaps I didn’t express it clearly. Asking every student for an opinion doesn’t tell you as much as a few thoughtful conversations with a few thinkers. Conversations in a mixed M/F group mutes the sexism and the extreme views.
I can believe that. But person to person evaluation is really what I would want. Not all the students have the courage to say what they think but enough of them do to pick up the tenor of the conversation. The trouble w online assessment is you lose the moderation that comes from civil discourse.
Surely part of the problem is the drive to make everything online. A sit-down with a few students for a conversation between real humans might be much more useful. Online assessments of online courses aren’t teaching or assessing.
Please stop sending so much stuff. One or two pictures a week is fine. But this is ridiculous. I will have to block if you carry on - which would be a shame.
