Thank you! π
This is a study of a beautiful scarlet tiger moth that I've been working on. I found the pupa on the spine of a book in my studio back in the summer!

He still owes me around Β£300 for losses, and I would have had to pay customs charges too if the officer who contacted me hadn't taken pity on my situation. It's all a learning experience, though. Thanks for asking me about it.
Ah well, the gallery owner decided to pack up and return home to NZ! I only found out that he'd closed the gallery when a friend sent me a photo of the boarded-up frontage. I emailed the owner, and amazingly, he got back to me. He returned my paintings, but rolled up in tubes without their frames.π€
Thank you; I appreciate you commenting; it means a lot! π
"A Secret Place" β Oil on linen, 2003. #oilpainting
While I'm working on new stuff, here's another old one. The landscape in which I set this scene is from my imagination but inspired by the countryside close to where I live.π§ββοΈ

Hmm, what should I paint? What should I paint? What should I paint? β Okay, time for a break, me thinks. π€

"Greasley Church" β Oil on canvas, 1999. #landscapepainting
Happy Easter to those who celebrate.
My local church, St Maryβs at Greasley, dates back to the 11th century. The only remains of the mediaeval building are a few stones in the east wall.

I hear you, and thanks, I appreciate it! I am pretty harsh on myself, but it does help me to push further with each new painting!
Thank you!
"Rhiannon's Wheel" β oil on linen, 1999. #figurativepainting
Here's another old one also inspired by the history and romance of the countryside surrounding the remains of Greasley Castle.

That's funny; you made me smile! And you're right; I suppose I was a little flattered, as he only absconded with a few of the other artists' work. Yes, I was very lucky to get them back, but now I feel sad that no one has stolen any of yours!
"Girl with a Ponytail" β Oil on linen, 2011. (14 x 18) #art #oilpainting
This painting was removed from its frame and stretcher frame by a previous, unscrupulous gallery owner along with two other pictures and smuggled to New Zealand! Anyway, I got them back! π€

Thank you!
On the flip side though, if you keep pushing, you keep learning!
"Cornered" β Oil on canvas, 2004. #contemporaryart
This painting was a submission piece (which was part of a series) for a fine art publisher. I felt I needed to do something a bit more contemporary. I needed a title, and "cornered" was the first word that popped into my head.

Thank you! It's just a shame I didn't leave it alone at this point.

After taking these photographs, I kept painting, and then I completely messed it up. Each new painting is uncharted territory; I just want to keep exploring. π

"By The Window" β oil on linen, 2011. #oilpainting
I wanted to keep this head study as simple as possible, using just a few colours and economy of effort, which, I think, lets the mood of the picture dominate.

A small study (6 Γ 8) I did a few years ago, featuring the shed in my parents' back garden. Maybe I could have found a more romantic backdrop? π€·ββοΈ #gardenshed

Here's "Beauvale", in its frame which was put on by me, so if you would like to give this painting a new home, you may want to get a professional framer to redo it? π€ #artcollector

Even though this painting wasn't a commissioned portrait of one of my nieces, I optimistically thought that my sister and brother-in-law would have loved it so much they would have to own it. Anyway, I still have it.π€·ββοΈ #oilpainting #figurativeart #art

This painting was conceived from reference photos taken in Gyllyngdune Gardens, Falmouth, back in 1997 whilst at Art College there. #falmouth #cornwall
I've included a photo of the model, Marie, from that day.
