Hey. Thanks for sharing what happened. Can you please follow back so I can dm you? I work for a council member.
Reading through all the quote-posts Madi’s post, you get a clear view into the impact that CM Chavez has on people and community. People see him and his work because he’s out there actually doing the work.
Congrats to Rep. @katiejonesmpls.bsky.social and family, who biked to the hospital last week and came back with baby Hans. Here's what she told me about the ride:
After Bovino randomly stopped his convoy to assault a park in Uptown, I remember people on the ground wiping pepper spray out of their faces, someone shouting that there were bullets in the snow, and then the gas clearing and there was Jason Chavez with a big, resolute smile helping people up.
This is the kind of leadership MN needs right now:
His friends get nervous, he said, and tell him to avoid putting himself in harm’s way.
“I don’t care. They’re coming after our people,” Chavez said. “Like, over my dead body are they gonna kidnap more people.”
Pretty wild to be watching the Minneapolis City Council meeting and see the officer who killed Amir Locke presenting about “officer wellness”. Truly no shame.

This smarmy letter—written by lawyers at a fancy downtown high-rise firm on behalf of landlords—not only opposes the pre-eviction notice extension ordinance, but also questions whether CMs would violate the Code of Ethics by voting for it. jumpshare.com/s/PfHPYXpra6...
The city policy that she was speaking against doesn’t even exist! The action was merely a procedural vote to send the item to staff to draft an ordinance that simply mirrors a new state law.
An woman wearing sunglasses and a Minnesota Aurora FC shirt holds a teal scarf above her head that reads “WE ARE AURORA” while cheering in the stands. Other fans stand behind her. A dark teal text overlay reads: “Dear Aurora Community, As we start the celebration of Women’s History month, we want to take a moment to reflect on our own young history and the legacy that we are all building together. When our group of 9 founders came together in 2020 with a shared vision of creating a women’s soccer team ‘For Community * By Community’, we had no idea we were creating something as rare and beautiful as the Aurora Borealis. As we head into our 5th season, it is still incredibly fitting that Minnesota Women’s Soccer became Minnesota Aurora FC.”
Minnesota Aurora FC players stand in a tight huddle on the field wearing teal jerseys. A dark teal text overlay reads: “The name Aurora, a name that has become synonymous with winning, but also with grassroots soccer, was chosen by our original group of Community Owners and we could not have picked a better name. The name was turned into the best brand in sports by our amazing designers - Nicole Meyer, Carla Zetina, and Allie Schmidt - the first of many steps fulfilling our mission of creating opportunities for women on and off the field. Every day of the past five years has been a struggle as we build out a community-owned women’s soccer organization that has no peer in the United States with no deep pockets. But that struggle has been immensely gratifying as we continue with the longest unbeaten league record in American men’s and women’s soccer history. We continue to draw crowds, TV viewers, sponsors and sell merchandise that has never been seen before at our level of soccer. We also continue our methodical pursuit of becoming a professional team. We are constantly working toward that end, networking and meeting with potential investors to find like-minded people who share our vision for a different kind of professional women’s team.”
Minnesota Aurora FC players remain in a team huddle on the field. A dark teal text overlay reads: “Most of the founders have been able to step back and support the team as fans. Some of us remain on the board and are joined now by incredible leaders who believe in Aurora, helping build out the organization and supporting an amazing staff that is taking the club to new heights. Through all of it, though, we remain so proud. Proud to support our amazing players, proud to cheer with you in the stands and proud that our community doesn’t just want to be fans, they want to build something better and bigger than just a soccer team. We hear so often from so many of you of what this team means to you and your families and we’re immensely grateful. This is our year, our 5th anniversary, and we can’t wait to celebrate it all with you and thank you for being with us every step of the way. ✦ The Minnesota Aurora Founders Matthew Bergeron, Wes Burdine, Andréa Carroll-Franck, Susan Earle, Matt Privratsky, Allie Schmidt, Rob Spence, Elisa Vicuña, & Andrea Yoch”
Reflecting on our first 5 years during Women’s History Month.
Hello, Mike. Sorry I forgot to respond to your previous message!
When I didn't hear back for a few weeks, I assumed you weren't interested and the shirt went to somebody else. Again, sorry about that. And thank you for donating to the GFM!
But as I stood side by side with protesters on the streets of Minneapolis and opposite dozens of armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at the Whipple Federal Building after Renee Good's killing - and again after the killing of Alex Pretti - I couldn't help but question whether I made the right call last year.
ok carrie bradshaw
Someone was abducted in St Anthony this morning at 6 AM near 29th Ave & Silver Lake Road. And then at 8 AM we saw at least 5 agents out of their vehicles at 26th & Jackson near Walgreens before they dispersed into the neighborhood.
This isn’t over. We still need people keeping watch & staying safe.
I did, it's so great! My first thought was, "hey, Laura's not wearing overalls."

Grudgingly thanking all the NIMBYs out there who walked to stop a duplex or a bike lane or whatever so that states could run to stop the feds from building their detention center archipelago.

If Defend 612 was a city department they would give a presentation to the city council with a slideshow charting their amazing response times. And brag about not using any of their overtime budget, because they have no budget.
I’m just a Minneapolitan, standing in front of a country, asking them to stop platforming our mayor for swearing on tv about ICE and then doing nothing substantive while antagonizing city council members that are
Same thing happened to the northbound E Line, causing blocked traffic. In turn, that caused the southbound (my bus) to get stuck on a hill, spinning its tires.
Why in the world is Sheriff Witt, whose agency has been collaborating with ICE throughout the duration of Operation Metro Surge, featured on a panel of “key voices dedicated to . . . community resilience?”
When council discusses the $5 million Small Business Resiliency Fund tomorrow, prepare for at least one of the conservative members to say the problem is too big and the SBRF won’t make a difference so they shouldn’t do anything at all.
We’re here on Lake street supporting small businesses ahead of a big vote tomorrow on City Council to establish a $5 million Small Business Resiliency Fund. The fund would be for small businesses negatively impacted by Operation Metro Surge.
Seeing this made me think that no matter how bad Walz’s MNDOT has been on Rethinking I-94, Klobuchar’s is going to be so much worse. Grim stuff.
While Walz, Klobuchar, Frey & their ilk steal Minnesota valor on TV, our City Council members are still out in the streets, protecting our neighbors ❤️🔥
Jacob Frey on TV: “We just approved rental assistance that is targeted towards the people who hopefully need it most.”
Jacob Frey to Minneapolis City Council:
Dear neighbor, I am proud of you and our immigrant residents. Your resiliency, strength, and dedication have led to the announcement that “Operation Metro Surge” will end soon. It’s clear that the commitment of our neighbors made it untenable for ICE and federal agents to continue to operate its occupation of our city and state. This isn’t as a result of capitulation from elected leaders. This victory is yours, but we must not stop until ICE is completely abolished, and no more families are ever separated again. I will forever be thankful to those who patrolled, observed, and supported our community with mutual aid and daily tasks during these horrific times. Our community is full of heroes who will always be remembered as caring and loving. There are no words to show how thankful I am of every single one of you who showed up day in and day out. I hope you’ll join me in continuing to carry the whistle of resistance as our work is not done. I am still asking the community to remain cautious and vigilant until we can confirm what this truly means. They said they are not backing down from mass deportation but will be ending the operation in Minnesota soon. I recommend you continue your current plan until we can give you more information. We still need observers and the community to be on the lookout. These “draw-downs” are expected to continue through next week, which means we will still need help now and in the future. Additionally, we must never forget what they did to our neighbors and loved ones. They murdered Renee Good and Alex Pretti, shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg, and kidnapped Victor Manuel Diaz, who then died under ICE custody. We are still mourning, demanding justice, and we will never forget. They targeted our immigrant neighbors and children, discriminated against our community based on skin color and accents, lobbed weapons of war on our parks, and completely shattered families who simply wanted to work, take their kids to schools, and
I am proud of you and our immigrant residents. Your resiliency, strength, and dedication have led to the announcement that “Operation Metro Surge” will end soon. 1/
Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.
Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.
