LLMs are not a higher level language because with higher level languages you could learn the rules and the nuances of them to drive super specific outcomes. with LLMs it is entirely non-specific
the trouble with writing rust is that by the time I'm done with a feature or a project I've learned so much that if I started it again I'd write it almost completely differently
help me get the word out about how this cis man is preying on trans peopleβs vocal dysphoria! π
tiktok post live now:
next thing you know I'll spend a year doing all k8s shit. what even is this career
I hadn't really written any rust before this year, nothing but the barest of learning stuff, but suddenly it's nearly all I've written over the past 4 months (this is the largest repo but there's another one that's newer / smaller)
I really did not expect to enjoy it this much π

there's little reason to believe that technological growth is or will remain exponential in the sense that the s1ngular!ty/A! prognosticators think, or that things won't regress significantly
"Hard times are coming, when we'll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope. We'll need writers who can remember freedom - poets, visionaries realists of a larger reality." -Ursula K. Le Guin
βAll of us have to learn how to invent our lives, make them up, imagine them. We need to be taught these skills; we need guides to show us how. If we don't, our lives get made up for us by other people.β
β Ursula K. Le Guin, The Wave in the Mind
βThe law of evolution is that the strongest survives!"
'Yes, and the strongest, in the existence of any social species, are those who are most social.
In human terms, most ethical... There is no strength to be gained from hurting one another. Only weakness."
β Ursula K. Le Guin
the trouble with working weird hours is you drop a really cool PR and there's no one around to excitedly show it off to
if your text editor doesn't come with an extension language it's DOA. it's the community that keeps text editors useful, one group or company can't match the velocity or meet the needs of everyone
why don't most http servers support overall request timeouts? every service with an api needs this for their users and to protect their infrastructure but no one seems to do it, they all only have timeouts for specific operations
people often lean on AI most when they lack expertise but lacking expertise makes you least able to find the inaccuracies in what AI says. Gell-Mann amnesia effect kicks in and we're more likely to accept that info uncritically en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gell-Ma...

and also: I've never done this before and have no idea how it's done
looking for recommendations for people taking commissions that can do mascot-style art. the would be for an open source project, an animal mascot, I wanted to get some mocked up to share as possibilities

Probably the only poem I memorized:
"Love is contraband in Hell, cause love is an acid that eats away bars. But you, me, and tomorrow hold hands and make vows that struggle will multiply. The hacksaw has two blades. The shotgun has two barrels. We are pregnant with freedom. We are a conspiracy."
I absolutely did not expect frieren to make me feel things, things about the loneliness of elves. rude
that's the common refrain, they get to occupy the space they really enjoy: being an architect
never mind that you don't feel the cost or value of abstractions, never mind that you make everyone else pay the price of your indulgence, the important part is your inflated sense of power
why do AI addicts act like you're being bigoted for demanding they take responsibility for writing and operating the code they put their name on, the writing they use to influence others.
the lack of self awareness is wild, the motivated reasoning just to not let go of feeling like an architect
it's bizarre to me that people feel strong connections to things, objects, and I wish it didn't feel that way. it makes me feel like an alien
"The end justifies the means. But what if there never is an end? All we have is means." - Ursula K. Le Guin
software artifacts are part of what's produced from building software, but learning and wisdom come from doing, the writing of it, and if you remove that you diminish those benefits as well. if you diminish those while producing even more code then you'll feel its absence all the more acutely #ai
which fallout game should I start with? I'm so over being out of the loop on it all and I need a distraction that isn't just more programming
The New York Times has the blood of children on its hands. It's abusive, horrifying, and disgusting how much they have contributed to the banning of transgender healthcare for children. 26 states now, more than half. May they reap what they sow, and all their cruelty be turned back on them tenfold
