Hey #WritingCommunity,

I'm planning on writing up an article about managing burnout as a creative. Wanted to gather input and tips from around the web.

Would love to hear your thoughts! You'll get credit in the final article, of course, as well. 😁

Hey #writingcommunity, I've got this experiment I'm doing over on Substack, and I thought about trying it here.

Would anyone be interested in a sci-fi thriller with a branching narrative...

Wait for it...

Told entirely in posts like these? You get to vote on what happens next.

Let me know!

βš”οΈDREAD 50βš”οΈ Guest Reviewer Death Match Epic Substacker Showdown

Today, my friend Derek James Kritzberg celebrated 50 issues of his DREAD Reviews Newsletter on Substack!

In this issue, he wrote a huge fictional battle between all his guest reviewers, and he asked ME to narrate it!

Would love to know what you all think!

Cephalopods are so terrifying if you stop to think about them for too long. One of the reasons I enjoyed Lovecraftian horror so much.

Fantastic choice, and some really good points here. There's nothing quite like the sound of crows cawing. 😨

Seeing animals refuse to enter places or go into water always puts me on edge. Great mini-horror here. πŸ‘

If it Bleeds... Synaptic Sprawl horror for Micro Fiction March: Week 1

Dropping in my microfiction horror I did earlier this week. Featuring audio I recorded that nearly made me lose my voice. πŸ˜…

I spotted a bear near the woods. I followed it so I could take a photo. When I caught up to it, it was dead.

A group of deer had killed it. Their antlers were covered in blood.

They were eating it.

I left and never came back.

So, I have a lot of deer where I live, and I also learned about the legend of the "Not Deer" last year, which inspired a flash fiction piece of mine on Substack.

So, deer at night would be my answer. The kind that just stare at you...

I think what works best here is stories that use exaggerated (or mutated) forms of animals that we recognize. Sort of an "uncanny valley" approach, if you will.

So, for example, giant underwater sea creatures, or as I mentioned in my other response, cryptids.

Once more, I find myself showing up late. πŸ˜…

Bradley Ramsey here! Writer of sci-fi and cosmic horror, with the occasional horror-comedy as well.

Not quite the natural world, but I sometimes like to bring in cryptids (or cryptid-like creatures) into my work. πŸ‘€

#WritingCommunity: time for a sanity check. How’s your week so far?

I myself am somewhat close to being β€œcaught up,” but I also know such a thing is the purest form of fantasy. πŸ˜‚

Just wrapped up narration and audio editing for a friend of mine on Substack. He asked me to narrate his big 50th newsletter, in which he wrote a battle royal between a bunch of authors in the community.

It turned out hilarious. It's out this Thursday! 😁

Here’s a quote to consider:

You are here, and it’s beautiful, and escaping isn’t always something bad.

- Delilah, Firewatch

Our world can be a lot, especially lately.

Escaping to another world, even if it’s fictional, can remind us that there’s plenty of beauty here as well. πŸ’™

Turning a Cosmic Concept into a Poetry Collection. The story behind Beauty in the Ending: Eulogies for Dying Worlds.

This is a piece that dives into the inspiration behind the poetry collection I recently released.

I've only recently begun writing LGBTQ+ characters into my work, but diversity and inclusion are something I'm really passionate about.

What's also important is ensuring that those elements don't define their whole character. They need to feel real, like anyone else.

A major theme in all of my horror work is trauma. How it shapes us, how we heal from it, the scars we carry, and why we shouldn't feel ashamed of what we've been through.

My horror is "tempered with hope," as I like to say. The darkness is real, but so is the light.

Love this question!

So, my current WIP has six POVs, and one of them is my first-ever trans character named Piper Windsor.

She is the daughter of a tech billionaire (and secret cult leader), who has decided to expose her father's company and its dark secrets any way she can.

A few hours late, but I absolutely love the #HorrorWritersChat events each week.

Hi all, I'm Bradley Ramsey, and I write cosmic horror set within a multiverse/mythos I call The Synaptic Sprawl.

My favorite LGTBQ+/Black character is the MC from Lovecraft Country. That whole show was amazing.
