Cephalopods are so terrifying if you stop to think about them for too long. One of the reasons I enjoyed Lovecraftian horror so much.

Fantastic choice, and some really good points here. There's nothing quite like the sound of crows cawing. 😨

Seeing animals refuse to enter places or go into water always puts me on edge. Great mini-horror here. 👏

Dropping in my microfiction horror I did earlier this week. Featuring audio I recorded that nearly made me lose my voice. 😅

I spotted a bear near the woods. I followed it so I could take a photo. When I caught up to it, it was dead.

A group of deer had killed it. Their antlers were covered in blood.

They were eating it.

I left and never came back.

So, I have a lot of deer where I live, and I also learned about the legend of the "Not Deer" last year, which inspired a flash fiction piece of mine on Substack.

So, deer at night would be my answer. The kind that just stare at you...

I think what works best here is stories that use exaggerated (or mutated) forms of animals that we recognize. Sort of an "uncanny valley" approach, if you will.

So, for example, giant underwater sea creatures, or as I mentioned in my other response, cryptids.

Just wrapped up narration and audio editing for a friend of mine on Substack. He asked me to narrate his big 50th newsletter, in which he wrote a battle royal between a bunch of authors in the community.

I've only recently begun writing LGBTQ+ characters into my work, but diversity and inclusion are something I'm really passionate about.

What's also important is ensuring that those elements don't define their whole character. They need to feel real, like anyone else.

A major theme in all of my horror work is trauma. How it shapes us, how we heal from it, the scars we carry, and why we shouldn't feel ashamed of what we've been through.

My horror is "tempered with hope," as I like to say. The darkness is real, but so is the light.

A few hours late, but I absolutely love the #HorrorWritersChat events each week.

Hi all, I'm Bradley Ramsey, and I write cosmic horror set within a multiverse/mythos I call The Synaptic Sprawl.

My favorite LGTBQ+/Black character is the MC from Lovecraft Country. That whole show was amazing.

I think a chapter a week is more than fair. Having over two chapters done already this week is amazing, though! Always good to get more writing in when you can, since life loves to throw us curveballs. 😅
