And happy birthday @ian-sundstrom.bsky.social
@wblt
An extremely edited podcast by two alt boys talking about what music they have been listening to. Anytime a non-canceled musical group or person is mentioned, a clip of that music must be played. You will like it, we swear. anchor.fm/whatchubeenlisteningto
And happy birthday @ian-sundstrom.bsky.social

Johnny Dynell and New York 88 - The Big Throwdown (1983)
This is straight up obnoxious. But the cover is so good.
And that's it!

Atlantic Starr - As the Band Turns (1985)
Pretty boring eighties R&B. Cool, Calm Collected is the only song that stuck out to me.

Spyder Presents Battle of the Raps (1985)
An early rap compilation that features the really goofy song Rock Meets Rap.
Not amazing but a fine piece of history.

And here's the Skate Master Tate B-side "2-headed love child". It is bad.

Skate Master Tate - Justice (To the Bass) (1987)
I got this because it had a bunch of skateboarding stuff on the cover. Ol' Skate Master Tate used to have a Nickelodeon show called Sk8 TV. This song is corny. But not absolutely terrible. There's even a video.

Brother D โ Clappers Power (1987)
Another social political song about power dynamics. Very corny but kinda catchy.

T.D.S. Mob - What's This World Coming To? (1989)
Pretty good song about police brutality and social injustice. I did not pick this one up and kind of regret it.

Spice - I want to Knock / Dance & Party (1986)
First off, great freaky cover art. Second off, baaad songs. Props for using the tune from I Dream of Jeanie in the second song. Very happy I didn't end up buying this.

I went to a antique store that had a bunch of hip hop / dance singles. Here are some of them that looked interesting to me.

Happy birthday dear John John (Johnny) Ketchup (Escobedo)
Knife Edge Sludge Match (collab between KEDM and Cornielius Sludge) (2025)
Harsh noise and electronic EDM stuff. Very spooky. Pretty good way to start the season. Your coworkers will hate it. kedm.bandcamp.com/album/knife-...
Heather the Jerk - Not Very Motorcycle (2024)
Lo fi, synth driven garage rock stuff. Very catchy and good. Why is the digital download so pricey though? Maybe she is a jerk. heatherthejerk.bandcamp.com/album/not-ve...
-Drive, S/T 2 7" - Periot, Jacoba - Bus Boys, Minimum Wage Rock & Roll (1980) -Half Mast at Major Taylor Skatepark on 7/4/25 - Inward Heal, Conversations

Periot - Jacoba (2024)
Weirdo Dutch punk girls do good.

Basically came back out from the woodwork so we could repost this video. I have no idea who MUSE even is. -R
Heard this tonight for the first time in a while. I still think it's a basically perfect track, and the video is cute. youtu.be/yRo4oF1JZqo?...
The Busboys - Minimum Wage Rock N' Roll (1980)
I bought this record at a thrift store and all I knew about them was they had a song on the Ghostbusters soundtrack. It's so good. Catchy rocknroll songs which some are about racism and poking fun at white flight.
youtu.be/pnPu67M3nO4?...
I get this version of a Sonny and Cher song stuck in my head all the time. It's all the "aww honey honey"'s.

Moral End - Demo (2024) I'm always drawn to Dutch punk. This band may be generic and silly but I'm loving it. moralend.bandcamp.com/album/demons...

George Benson [Summertime]
One time I mailed Johnny a George Benson tape but dressed it up like $30 photocopied vaporwave cassette. -R
While in the kitchen washing dishes or cooking, I listen to a lot of our local "classic" station WCLS "The Sound". It mostly plays 80's new wave with the occasional 70s or 90s song. It's EXTREMELY repetitive but soothing to listen to while scrubbing burnt onions off a pan. www.wcls977.com
In an older episode we talk about the Cartoon Planet albums and how funny George Lowe is as Space Ghost. We thought he had passed away when we recorded that and were delighted that he was still alive. George finally did kick the bucket recently. RIP you delightful man.
