It’s interesting that when the UK tried to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda the conversation centered on its human rights treaties whereas in the US-El Salvador case it’s pretty much only about due process.
A couple of chapters in The Hidden Globe talk about offshoring migrants. It’s not a new practice and countries do all kinds of things to get away with it, but this is the most disturbing proposal I’ve seen
This brings me no pleasure but
It was the perfect time to read The Hidden Globe by Atossa Araxia Abrahamian, great book. If you pair it with How to Hide an Empire and Material World maybe you can start seeing what a sane US trade policy that actually helps normal people looks like.
Thank you!
Great book — even more relevant in 2025. Thanks @atossaaraxia.bsky.social
Given Trump’s admiration of Orban, don’t be surprised if we see rhetoric like this in the US (fwiw it’ll be hard to pull off.)

This citizenship industry report argues that global climate inaction is essentially leaving small and vulnerable countries no choice but to sell citizenship to finance resilience projects … it’s not wrong 🙃
Yet again I would like to know if dual citizens of “red list” countries are banned or not banned…
3 percent of the population. Comoros to the rescue?
Yeah, this is depressing and entirely predictable
