General Kenobi
General Kenobi
One of the best released post Disney buy imo. I may be biased but the books from that period after RotJ always please me (and The High Republic).
Two half-built battle stations float beside a cloudy planet. An imperial shuttle streams past.
Dark pyramids rise from a platform inside a lake. A statue sits in the center of the structure, posed with fists to chest looking down. Orange winged birds fly by and conical rocks pop up from the water. Tall green trees ring the water.
Taun-Tauns stand in an ice cave
Moody #SWConceptArt I love the dark Yavin spires- makes me wish Lukeβs post RotJ temple was more interesting. (The small rock hut from Book of Boba drives me nuts if itβs supposed to be the center structure from TLJ)
You have my permission to do absolutely nothing today
She is from the cancelled mobile game- Uprising if I remember right? It was actually pretty interesting
Gonk
And they are wrong of course
A star destroyer looms in the foreground, paired with another overlapping an icy white planet amid the black of space.
A furry creature is ridden by a rebel trooper with a rifle, rubbing for their lives on an icy plane as two At-At walkers pursue. Snow covered mountains make up the terrain.
Princess Leia in a white gown leans over a laying, orange-garbed Luke Skywalker, who receives treatment from a lithe silver droid. C-3P0 stands watching in the foreground with R2D2. The space is a medical setting of warm whites and a viewport of space can be seen behind the characters. It is the end of the Empire Strikes Back.
#SWConceptArt Little snippets of story for The Empire Strikes Back by Ralph McQuarrie. Does anyone ever question that title? Iβve never liked it. It feels more like a blurb! youβd see on a comic book. I donβt think it fits with the fantasy, mystical theme of the others.
I hope someone let Diego Luna feel Jabba (βs son)
Built rising from a lake, these Ewok structures are built with flat wooden sides forming a pyramid, cone shape. In the foreground a fuzzy bear like alien walks towards the viewer with a backpack. Blue pine woodland and snow capped mountains sit in the distance.
In the forest of the Endor moon, where trees climb with massive, thick trunks, Ewoks carry C-3P0 in a wooden scratch built throne atop a fallen tree.
Ewokian Architecture and a Golden god for todayβs #SWConceptArt credit: Ralph McQuarrie
The Bride was EXCELLENT. It is an interesting narrative on suffering, exploitation, and finding oneβs self. Go see it! Who doesnβt love films set in 1936 Chicago/NYC with ~monsters~?
Wow. π€©
What a dream! Congratulations π
A vivid contrast between bulbous Mon Cala cruisers, the Death Star, and a background blue and green shadow-covered planet. An explosion blooms in one large ship, near to the grey battle station. The dark of space inhabits the frame.
Blue and grey A Wings fly by, with sharp flat noses and two boosters behind the glass top cockpit.
A black suited Tie Fighter pilot sits in his ship, the point of view from inside the cockpit. Black tubes wrap over his shoulders to a unit on his back. The Millennium Falcon flies towards the full round Death Star, grey in the view screen window.
Space! The battlefield of stars and stations, worlds full of strange alien life. Mon Cala cruisers, a classic sleek A-Wing, and a Tie Fighter pilot in pursuit are the subjects of todayβs #SWConceptArt by Ralph McQuarrie.
#StarWars Thought: I can only imagine the zeitgeist would be more interested if βStar Wars returns to the Big Screen!β was situated around Starfighter (or Rey!) instead of season four of Mando. People want fresh! Hoping it surprises me.
Nooooooo way Iβm stunned. Youβre gonna be flooredβ¦and heartbroken
I can comfort watch Clone Wars/Rebels tho
And the evil green frog
None of the post RotJ shows have hit me with an ~I must rewatch~ vibe. I think the new stuff needs to lean into fantasy. Rey movie and maybe even Starfighter pique my interest the most
Rewatched Scream V last night and realized just how much 7 lacked in sustenance. Yikes. Legit no sauce
At least youβve made it past most of it if that happens. Have you watched Skeleton Crew?
Beautiful
Darth Vader escorts black garbed Luke Skywalker to the Emperorβs domain on Coruscant. Browns and greys reign in this alley, between towers that rise out of frame. A desolate walkway extends to the horizon with a hint of the city and atmosphere 2/3βs of the frame to the right. The immediate foreground is two corrugated columns matching the wider imageβs colors.
A three wing Imperial shuttle glides over the city surface of Coruscant. Sharp towers jut from the flat surface, where trenches of city descend down in narrow openings. A late evening sun casts the sky in orange to blue to black, with a planet of swirling green hanging in the right side of the sky.
One day these will find a #StarWars audience. Till then, #SWConceptArt features Ralph McQuarrieβs Coruscant, known as Had Abbadon in the RotJ era. In these concepts, Coruscant is both electric and quiet- a haunting contrast not found in later interpretations. Coruscant under Imperial rule.
Oh wow. The original is incredible! And the composition works much better. Iβd be upset to create a piece so detailed only for it to be heavily washed out and reconstructed.
Andor writer writing Aegonβs Conquest (Targaryens arriving to the Seven Kingdoms) as a MOVIE. this could be big. iβm available! Look at my hair!
On this day 14 years ago, Ralph McQuarrie passed away. Star Wars maintains an orchard of incredible artists, all branching from the original mind of Ralph. It really is incredible. #SWConceptArt
For todayβs #SWConceptArt, Iβm revealing that I am obsessed with the man in the pointy hat. Whereβs HIS Star Wars story?
Oh wow, very interesting? Free for all? Paid? Agent required?
Views from the Overlook?
The addition of how much time it took to create the pieces is always much appreciated. Thanks
