A Bog Hoverfly feeding from a purple Common Knapweed plant. This Hoverfly has beautifully veined see through wings and bands of very dark brown and bright yellow on its abdomen.

A Marmalade Hoverfly, Episyrphus balteatus on a Corn Chamomile flower. This Hoverfly has very dark brown bands across an orange abdomen. The Corn Chamomile is a white, daisy-like flower with white petals and a yellow centre.

A Hoverfly with dark brown eyes and a longish snouth and a dark reddish-brown abdomen. It is feeding on a deep-pink Betony flower.

Talking about Hoverflies, this little one was feeding on our Betony plant last summer.
It is a male Common-snout Hoverfly, latin name, Rhingia campestris.
It has the nickname of "Heineken fly" as with its long snout, it reaches the parts of tubular flowers other flies can't. 😂
