After we have the nightly pre-dinner routine where he picks a random record off the shelf and we have a dance party.
I am so glad that he is already sharing my love of music. I love these traditions.

Haha! Our James Taylor (or sometimes Phil Ochs, Carole King, Randy Newman, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan…) listening hour has actually become a nightly tradition. It might start with other artists, but always ends with a moment of reverence for Mr. Taylor.

Caucuses obviously stink from an accessibility and fairness perspective, but on top of that, Caucuses also stink from a being in the room having to do the thing perspective.
One of my 2026 goals is to darn a sock. That’s actually the only goal. If one sock gets darned I will be a happy man. Well, as happy as a man with one darned sock can be in this day and age.
The way my 19mo son immediately lays down and listens intently specifically when James Taylor music is on and no other music feels reminiscent of a religious observance.
I cannot say I blame him.
I think sometimes it is ok to give in and let the reply guy within you win and oblige the engagement bait posters all over threads.
But I will not bring that energy back over here.

I highly recommend reading and then recommending to absolutely everyone: “the Serviceberry” by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
It is so radical, and so accessible and beautiful to the concerns of people in rural areas.
It is a great starting place.
Every so often I fall asleep with headphones in, and ever since I switched to wireless ones I wake up certain I ate one of them in my sleep if it inevitably fell out of my ear.

I bring a real “build walkable cities, improve public transit, multi-family housing is good, mix the zoning uses” urban advocacy type vibe for a guy who drives a tractor every day.
Out here living the type of life where I am listening to technology podcasts out of horrified curiosity getting excited every time the say RAM shortage or high RAM prices because I am getting a flock of sheep ready for lambing and hoping for a good number of ram lambs.
I suspected as much.
That will definitely account for part of it.

I adopted “y’all” years ago to aim for gender inclusivity.
It doesn’t seem to fly as well in Minnesota as it did in Colorado. What are Minnesotans who aim for inclusive language saying instead?

I don’t know when my brain will decide it can focus all the way through a book I read with my eyes again, but I just finished my second audiobook of the year, which probably two more books than I consumed in 2024 and 2025 combined, so I am excited about that.
I have to confess:
I cancelled a service for ethical reasons four months ago.
That service has still been working and I am not being charged.
Rather than paying for a new service, I have been buying physical things from the creators I most enjoy on the service I am not paying for.
Is that… ok?
The only right thing the MCU could have done to move past the Kang era would have been to end the Deadpool/Wolverine movie with an after credit scene with Deadpool exiting the big arena where all the Kangs were covered in blood and saying “well that takes care of that, you’re welcome Kevin.”
Sometimes I worry about just how big of a problem Mr. Beast will be in 20 years.
Lots of politicians post videos and whatnot about what caucuses will be like, but they pretty much always address what a caucus will be like in a city.
They don’t really talk about the one where your family will be a whole precinct and somebody will hand you a folder and hope for the best.
Sometimes you just have to listen to some of Sufjan’s weird ones and call it a day.
