Sylvia Gore was a significant figure in the development of women's football in England, first as a player (and pioneering England international) and later as a coach and administrator.

Times were often bleak for the Blues in the late 1940s, with scoring goals proving problematic. But on 5 March 1949, the Toffees hit five past Blackpool without reply. Eddie Wainwright, pictured in white, scored four times.

Sixty years ago, in the equivalent fixture, Everton held relegation fighting Newcastle to a 0-0 draw. The Blues extended their unbeaten run to 14 games, without conceding in eight. Deploying a 4-3-3 system, with a forward line of Trebilcock, Temple and Husband, they moved into 7th place.

Through attending a concert in a small Liverpool venue by Neil Sedaka, whose death was announced today, Evertonβs promotions manager David Exall first met Graham Gouldman. The eventual result would be the song, Forever Everton. Read about it, here:

Wishing former EFC striker Alan Biley a happy 69th birthday. One of Howard Kendallβs first signings as the Bluesβ manager, Alanβs star soon waned and after 21 appearances (3 goals) he left for Portsmouth, after a spell on loan at Stoke City.

It's 126 years to the day since legendary goalkeeper Leigh Roose won his first Wales cap in a 2-0 win against Ireland. He was playing for Aberystwyth Town at the time having just completed a science degree at Aberystwyth University. Very proud to be Leigh's biographer, so I am.
