In my WIP I have a character named Rev. Vable. His first name is either Unla or Unlo. It's meant to evoke the word "unlovable." Could be spelled either way. One way makes more sense if you're SAYING the name. The other makes sense if you're reading it. Which should it be?

When I think of a diner I think of a dingy little hole in the wall, very messy. IHOP is too clean and well lit to be a diner. Also, as others have said, it's a chain. I think of diners being independent.
