Like yes, it is shitty to project our identities onto other people and assume we’ll match. But that doesn’t mean people clearly struggling with their identity should be ignored. Giving them the option, letting them know that it’s okay and that they could be happy, should be the default idea.

As someone who only realized she was trans *because* someone else made me aware the option was there, it always sucks to see the “prime directive” taken seriously. Even Star Trek, the show we got Prime Directive from, didn’t take it seriously as more than a plot convenience.
