Not to go boomer on main but I really miss when animated movies had voice actors in them and not "tv actor with a unique voice"
Hey how bout that mario movie
Donald Glover as Yoshi is like a double edge sword.
On the one hand, I’m still gonna be bitter seeing more and more character/voice actors being swept under the rug for the sake of more celebrities.
Yet despite that, Donald’s Yoshi impression is pretty good. So yay I guess?

Well… here we go again.
Please tell me this isn’t recent…
A musical? Color me intrigued!
“Copperfield” (1981) ran at the ANTA Theatre from April 16-26, 1981. A cast recording of this show wasn’t made, but a few bootlegs have survived.
“David Copperfield” (1993, dir. Don Arioli). While it shares the same songwriters, the songs from the 1981 show don’t make it in.
If I had a nickel for every musical adaptation of “David Copperfield” that had original songs by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn… I’d have 2 nickels!
Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
Yes, it was planned to be their next one, but the critical and box office failure “King and I” caused it to be cancelled. I promise you I read about this somewhere, but can’t find a proper source.
Genuinely awful movie. But hey, the R&H estate stopped them from doing an adaption of “Oklahoma”… apparently that was the next one they were gonna do.
Don’t watch the Richard Rich adaption of “The King and I”.
Worst mistake of my life.
yes, nothing says "innovation reinvention" like a nepobaby trust fund brat with no meaningful experience being gifted a massive hollywood empire by his technofascist dad, who leveraged his corrupt influence over the country's pudding-headed autocrats to box out competitors (?)
After 9 yeareals, it's finally my turn to post the "a thousand cereals" clip, seeing as how I'm the idiot who made it.
Jellicle Smash Bros. Brawl
One thing I’m considering is doing one-off shorts.
When Disney bought Fox a decade ago people joked about how the Alien Queen was now a Disney princess. It was a lighthearted way of coping with the ever-increasing consolidation in media + utter absence of monopoly enforcement.
My ability to have a lighthearted reaction to this shit is long gone.

a little animation test i did of my Fish that has been sitting untouched for a while, and still unfinished . . . #animation
Sketch of Bombalurina and Demeter from the musical “Cats”. Bombalurina is on the left and she’s looking at Demeter with a seductive look. One hand on her hips as she’s walking. Demeter is on the right looking at Bombalurina annoyed. Sketch by Luke Perkins (2/21/26)
“He’s outwardly respectable…”
“I know… he cheats… at cards!”

that… has to be a joke, right?
A 1996 print ad for Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, featuring the main characters from the film happily dancing around. Below is tagline "Join the Party." Said film includes themes of violence, racism, abuse, corruption of the church, and an entire musical number where the villain, Judge Frollo, lusts over the heroine Esmeralda. This isn't the fun kid-friendly party the poster promised us.
My favorite movie ads are the ones that are the complete opposite of the film's actual tone.
young klipspringer antelope is tiny and grey-brown colored, perching on a rock
looking at photos of a tiny antelope called a klipspringer and WOW there sure are a lot of people trophy hunting these for some reason. I get that hunting big wild animals makes certain people feel alive, but come on now
Replacing the real artists (or cast members) with an audio-animatronic and making the actual tutorials pre-recorded sure is… a choice.
“Rover Dangerfield” (1991, dir. James L. George & Bob Seely)
So recently I’ve been working on a piece of animation with one of my characters and I’ve been trying to make sure the pauses in the timing feel right.
And yet it ended up being… 17 seconds long.

I've seen some people complaining elsewhere, and it's kinda weird to me.
Michael Bay's 'Armageddon' was in the Criterion Collection. I'm just happy that a physical release of the movie is in sight, and that it's another animated movie added to the league.
This talk on animation for the Criterion collection has me thinking. PIXAR was able to allow one of their films a Criterion release. What should stop WDAS from doing the same thing? They’ve gotten a lot better with their 4k restorations recently, so it could be a golden opportunity.
