yeah!! so its not like, a bad game or a bad experience but if you want that PB1 gut wrenching drama its just Not There, because this is actually Disgaea 8 😔
still like it but i think if youre feeling unsatisfied that's probably why

i was talking to my other friend abt this, PB2's biggest issue is that its totally toothless, PB1 had you thrown in the dirt and mud and marona had to claw out with tears in her eyes to get One Friend but in PB2 all the bad stuff is told but you never once really feel it

My favorite Takahashi anecdote is that he had such deep dissatisfaction for Shinzo Abe and the admin at the time, he drew this picture while urging his instagram followers to go vote for something better. He got crazy backlash for it and had to apologize though.

i think we just have a unique point of view because marona at this point is very famous and accomplished after PB1 so ofc stuff works out for her, its when we talk to the regular townsfolk that its clear things suck ass

marona is literally too nice to let it get to her and i think its impossible for her to be depressed if Ash is with her. idk if you played it but the Another Marona storyline shows how bad things can get for her without Ash and that ivoire SUCKS

pb2 gets a lot of points for having that special NIS flavor though, at the end of the day i still enjoyed it lots

i feel like pb2 tried to go for that middle ground of "we're doing a sequel but we want newcomers to enjoy it too" and one of the costs of that was marona only speaking about her old friends in really really vague hints, castile gets brought up SOMETIMES but shes def just a cameo type deal sadly

youre so right abt death having zero meaning in the story though, like, waow this cool character died!! i wonder whats gonna happen to them!!! come on.

i really like the gameplay and i think the plot explores really interesting ideas but i dont feel pb2 really brought it home the way pb1 did. its like. good, and just good, which is more frustrating than it being bad somehow?

no yeah absolutely, i think my biggest issue with PB2 is that the writing is structured like. EXACTLY like a disgaea game, you get a group of goofballs who all have their own lil stories to figure out, and it's not bad or anything but its definitely not what i fell in love with PB1 for

I do really appreciate the game getting super into ash and marona's relationship and how they both want to depend on one another and having them talk about it honestly. Pb2 had a lot of weird stuff in it but I think it did hit the plot points I wanted it to
