17. Final Destination Bloodlines
Ehh, not my favorite movie in the series, but it was pretty fun.

π₯΄
At the point in editing where the story is starting to really shine and I'm getting a little misty eyed from my own writing π₯Ί
I'm either getting attacked by auto-filtered bots or my bsky notifications are broken, because the numbers showing up on my post do not match what my notifications actually allow me to see. Sorry if there are any actual human beings I'm ignoring!
Latest draft of The Town that Banished Death is done.
Just one or two more quick passes and I think it'll be ready to open to beta readers π₯Ή
.../ the best parts of the narrative get literally zero screen time because it would have ruined the ooohhh ~mysteryyy~ so instead we have two hours of pointedly never directly addressing the main plot. I don't mind doing a little puzzling things out, but not if it comes at the expense of EVERYTHING
16. The Girl Who Got Away
It has good ideas but got WAYYY too carried away with fake twists and red herrings and intentionally misleading scenes. It's so FRUSTERATING. It could've made for a really good, if cliched, story if it just allowed itself to tell it instead of CONSTANTLY being extra.../
15. Cobweb
This is the most disappointed I've been in a movie in a WHILE. There are elements and scenes that I LOVE, but the movie hardcore suffers from not knowing what it wants to be. The last act falls apart so horribly and makes earlier parts worse by not giving them the closure they neededπ©π©π©π©
Okay so I DID get a bit burned out after writing (basically) two novellas last month and slowed down dramatically, but I think I'm recharged enough.
I'm returning to The Town that Banished Death tomorrow, and then maybe I'll indulge in a little schlocky fantasy writing after that.
14. The Platform 2
Very similar thoughts to the first. There's a lot that's very interesting, but the literal plot suffers a lot for the sake of "art" or something. It's bizarre and abstract to a detriment. I do like most of it and appreciate what I think the theme is, but boy is it ehhhh sometimes
13. The Platform
Such a fascinating movie. I really like ~80% of it, with the ending stretch kinda just annoying me. I feel it tried too hard to be open to interpretation that it lost all meaning. Even ignoring themes or symbolism or anything, the literal actions in the ending portion are just dumb
12. Don't Move
There's a fair bit of plot convenience, but if you can accept that, it has a lot going for it. Very good watch.
11. The Black Phone
Pretty good! Not the most amazing thing every, but it serves its purpose pretty well and has a lot of ideas I enjoyed. A few of the sub-plots were a little ehhh, but nothing that's a dealbreaker.
10. PokΓ©mon Legends: Z-A
Not perfect by any means, but this is the first PokΓ©mon game on Switch that doesn't feel half finished, so yay!! Aside from that, I ADORE it, shortcomings and all, for being the closest thing to actually living in the PokΓ©mon world we've ever gotten. Kid Me would be beaming
Oh hey thanks!
I love the characters in this stupid game so much πππ
9. Deerskin
A sort of dark fairy tale about trauma and the many deep-seeded changes it can force in a person both physically and mentally, as well as as a story of hope and of reclaiming yourself after trauma. Plus it has a ton of dogs. Very wow, much good.
I like it!
Thank you!
I've survived another year around the sun! I can't believe I'm finally turning 12!
Or was it 20?
Or 27?
45?
63?
Whatever the case, my brain is riddled with dementia, so this next year is sure to be filled with new experiences!
My current plans for my novellas:
Publish The Town that Banished Death October of this year
Publish Mr. Crow's Blood Bank on Valentine's Day next year
I started and finished TTtBD and heavily revised MCBB and gave it a whole new identity. One of the best months for writing I've had in a LONG time
I wrote a first-kiss scene for the first time ever this morning. This story has more romance than anything I've done before, and I think it's actually going pretty well!
I also came up with a (tentative) publishing plan for this year and next.
Things are looking up.
Top o da mornin', #5amwritersclub. I may or may not write for very long. I want to at least get something done, but my motivation isn't super duper high because 1) c'est le weekend and 2) I won't quite be able to finish by my arbitrary end-of-the-month goal, so no huge hurry now.
I'm unsure about this chapter. I think it does important things but also feels a little too slice-of-lifey. The whole book is slice-of-lifey, but with an undercurrent of unease. This chapter might feel too "normal".
Anyway. A slowish morning of writing, but progress is progress.
This is a funny story
Good mornin', #5amwritersclub. I'm getting closer to the end of this draft. It was originally a brisk ~14k novella that was heavy on concepts and bleak style, and it's grown into a much more intimate ~26K story that additionally has characters who've stolen my heart.
At last, a good writing session! After a couple days of poor writing followed a couple days of not having the mental energy or will to write at all, this was very welcome.
I'm hoping I can finish this latest draft of this novella by the end of the month.
