I don't think it's what you want, but I think that applying the approach you appeared to suggest would lead to a less diverse list of candidates.

There will be lots of us working to improve the institution and culture from within. But I also understand why some people might decide to the leave the party and talk to the media. There's not necessarily only one valid way to try to achieve change if you think there are problems in an institution.
Well obviously someone who isn't a member of the party isn't going to be selected as a candidate for the party. The quote was clearly referring to when she stood as a candidate for the party and whether she would have been selected if they had applied the current standards.
Well personally I don't really like being told that I hold ridiculous views that I certainly don't hold.
Nobody thought that situation was satisfactory. But it is a fallacy to say that something must be done and now something has been done, therefore the right thing has been done.
Your suggestion that people who are concerned about some of the rejections "saw nothing wrong with the previous status quo that resulted in the party losing three MPs in two years" is a complete straw man. People can think that was bad and also that some of the rejections this time are bad.
Lew, are you aware of which candidates have been rejected or the reasons for their rejection? If you're not, I don't see how you are in a position to make an informed judgment on whether this is the case or not.
I am replying to a tweet that referenced it as a criterion. I think it is a bad criterion.
Do you really think the Green Party would have been better off if it had refused to select select Sue Bradford as a candidate in 1999? She was an extremely effective MP. Just look at the member's bills she passed.
If this is your criterion, you will end up running a list of cis straight white men.
"Preliminary evidence from the [US and the UK] shows increased distress, anxiety and suicidal ideation following introduction of restrictions on puberty blockers for gender dysphoria, with one US study reporting an increase in suicide attempts among young people with gender incongruence."
A better future for Aotearoa is possible, but the ultra-wealthy will spend a lot to fool people into thinking that is impossible.
Your actions, your donations, and your strength however, can break those spells.
So would you like to fight for that better future?

An image of three koru with a title text on the top-right saying "Neoliberalism is a failed experiment" with 'failed experiment' emphasised. At the bottom of the image is the GreenLeft Network horizontal logo with the Green Party's authorisation statement.
Aotearoa needs a left-wing government that breaks away from the neoliberal status quo.
We are the network that is pushing the Green Party into leading that next government.
A one-term right-wing government is not enough.
New Zealand's broken political system needs to change.
Easiest co-sign. Clean air in schools is a no brainer. Labour should have done it. National should do it. If they care so much about ~the economy~ they should value the health of kids, teachers, and whΔnau. : our.actionstation.org.nz/petitions/cl...
Yes - there was a change is tone, but the doctrine didnβt change on LGBTQ+ people, reproductive freedom or women priests. Nor was his track record on dealing with sexual abuse cases great.
This is great news - welcome Rebecca!
I feel similarly having watched lots of Mayday episodes - particularly hearing about the safety improvements introduced as a result of accidents.
When I saw the headline of that article I suspected it was going to annoy me. I was correct.
Not so fast!
There seems to be some issue with the notice of motion. But I understand that Nikau is trying to fix that and he has certainly said that he will continue to oppose the sale whenever it comes to the council table.
Nikau has said that he will continue to vote against selling the airport shares. You make a good point about how tikanga can be weaponised though.
Labour might put up someone decent (I.e. not Paul Eagle) this time:
"Can I, straight cis man who has a long history of being a shitheel over identity politics, explain feminism and transness adequately? Oh definitely" - Danyl
Look, I am not trans or queer so I can't speak for anyone trans or queer but I am a feminist and I can tell you right the fuck now that gender essentialism based on genitals is not "TRADITIONAL FEMINISM" Danyl you fucking dork
Oh of course itβs Danyl! He really is the most overrated political writer in the country. A good writer whoβs unaware of his own prejudices and ignorance is very dangerous.
Efeso Collins in his maiden speech last week www.parliament.nz/en/pb/hansar...
This is the cause Efeso was running for, raising money for fresh drinking water in the Pacific. I reckon sending some donations this way would be a wonderful way to do something with the sadness you're feeling.

It was slightly displaced by then and I was lucky it healed properly and didnβt need surgery.
Always best to get it checked if thereβs a possibility. Speaking as someone who had a hand fracture that wasnβt diagnosed for two months!
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon! Nothing broken I hope?
