It is! I havenβt been to the pharmacy or petfood store in over a year. They also run to the supermarket for shorter lists, and they pick up take out. I feel very lucky indeed.

Exactly! Kids riding to school - I get to have a peaceful second coffee before work. And they are happily running my errands with their ebikes, too.
This should go without saying, but apparently it does. What officials say happened is not the news. What actually happened is the story. And headlines should reflect the truth as you can verify it, not the official lie.

Happy Birthday!
"The mafia state was made plain; civics drowned in corrupt institutionalism. We were told to keep pretending representative government was real." -- @sarahkendzior.bsky.social
No, I have no research on this :) Just feel a lot safer when I donβt get passed with a foot or so distance.
In general, I find it hard to compare biking in US vs Europe.
In Germany the minimum passing distance is 1.5 m. Speed limit within cities is lower, roads are narrower, cars on avg smaller.
If we could get β20 is plentyβ across towns for cars as well, then sure, limiting ebikes makes sense. But as it is right now, it is a lot safer to go 20-28mph and flow with traffic than getting passed dangerously close by most drivers.

California, this November 4th, the whole country is counting on you.
Prop 50 puts our elections back on a level playing field, preserves independent redistricting over the long term, and lets the people decide.
So return your ballot today. Vote yes on 50.
Well, at least he's not going to cause a lot of damage to others. Much rather he texts on a unicycle than in a car, where he could easily take out a family.
That scene doesnβt have traffic calming. If it did, maybe it wouldnβt be such a chaotic shitshow π€·π»ββοΈ
"Mama, do you know how beautiful the lights at the movie theater are at night? And all the lights downtown - it's so cool!"
The kid now gets to stay out with his bike past sunset. Enjoying our little town in a very different way than people in cars β€οΈ
This is the age to get them hooked on bikes.
We continue to show them that they are worthy of being in the streets only in a car.. Even though getting the kids hooked on active and public transportation would be the easiest way for a long term mode shift imo π€·π»ββοΈ
What a missed opportunity
We fail our kids if we donβt teach them the rules of the road at a young age - whether they ride with or without βeβ.
I also taught mine all the ways drivers usually break the rules, so they know what to expectβ¦
And as long as they wear a helmet, Iβm excited to see them take over the streets β€οΈ
I am so with you! Ignorant old people in Marin making life difficult for teens because they were too lazy to read and understand the CA law before they implemented this.
Kudos to the young teens in town leading the way!
"It had a bike sign (sharrow), so we're even allowed to be there! So we were petty and didn't move to the sidewalk. We were going 12mph b/c some had pedal bikes. She had to wait with her SUV, revving her engine."
Move over, the kids are coming :)
βLocal stores next to the protected bike-lane have seen a 49% increase in sales, compared to an average of 3% for Manhattan as a whole.β

Weβll nitpick the motor assist classification on a 35 kg e-bike like itβs a moral crisis, yet 4-ton trucks roam our cities without anyone batting an eye.
Yes! I no longer do school runs or drive to soccer practice - and the kids figured out to take their ebikes on the train to their favorite barber shop. They ride to all their friends houses by themselves, and best part - they run errands for me <3
They are 12 and 14 and it is awesome.
Thinking to myself this afternoon βoh, it smells like summerβ just to realize a couple minutes later βfuck, itβs smoke, I need to close windows and doorsβ
Great summary!
Adding: if they arrive, call your lawyer to stay on the phone. And: consider that some people (regardless of immigration status) are more nervous around ice / uniforms. Give them specific permission to just state βIβm not authorized, let me get my boss / someone to speak with youβ
Safe travels π
I understand they need their paychecks, they are people like all of us. They didn't sign up for the National Guard to fight Americans. I wonder if we could fundraise for people who don't show up to their National Guard job tomorrow.
Exactly - I talk to so many people who want to βban the kids on ebikes!!!β and when you ask more questions, they all mean the motorcycles (which of course are already illegal for teens). And then they try to ban class 1 + 2 because they donβt know better. Legal ebikes (<20mph)are awesome for teens!
The Trump administration is working with private companies like Palantir to create detailed reports on every American, which could help them weaponize our personal information in their quest to deport immigrants and punish critics.
This is a huge threat to our constitutional rights.
The teens in my world gained a lot of autonomy with their ebikes (though they ride bikes too) - they fix most of it themselves, learning along the way. This transport to the shop was a pure mechanical problem that they couldnβt fix π€·π»ββοΈ
Probably learning more mechanics skills with finicky ebikes π
Ebike in the back of a Fiat 500, trunk half open because, of course, it doesnβt fit all the way.
The teens couldnβt fix an ebike themselves and needed help from the shop. Transport in my Fiat 500 worked fine enough. Again, another day not needing a SUV (but wishing for a cargo bike trailer - or better yet, a friend close by with such a trailer)
Happy Friday!
