Why do the children of elderly patients stay away? Loneliness makes them get sicker and stay sicker for longer | Ranjana Srivastava One of the greatest acts of love is simply bearing witness to the vicissitudes of ageing

You can’t always fix things for your elderly loved one; fear and general decline can’t always be cured with a pill. While we felt hopelessness, Mum made it clear that she was grateful that we were there.

‘I went out and I had a cry’: what aged-care staff say about their grief when residents die Aged-care workers often form bonds with residents over months or years. So they may experience feelings of grief and loss when someone in their care dies.

A great reminder of how hard Aged Care work is. Let's appreciate their work more!

Albanese is crying poor, but we’re losing billions a year from untaxed gas In Norway, they tax their oil and gas industry heavily and give their kids free higher education. Here, we do the opposite.

While the government’s trying to find millions in productivity reforms, we’re giving away billions in gas.

Students are *still* paying more in HECS payments than the government collects from the petroleum resources rent tax.

One uni subject costs $578, the other $2124. What would the average student choose? I started an arts course this year only to find my choice of subjects meant I would pay as little as $14,000 or as much as $50,000 for my degree. Bizarre cost discrepancies are rife.

Australia needs more psychologists - and more critical thinkers. So why make those subjects four times more expensive than Latin or Greek?

It's past time for the government to undo the harm caused by Scott Morrison's Job Ready Graduates scheme.

Fun fact. You can't win an Australian federal election when you only have four women MPs. The current projection is that women will win at least 63 of the 150 federal seats, 46 Labor, 4 Liberals, 3 Nationals and 7 independents.

Shocking behaviour! I would hope such a person not be allowed near any female patients.

Do we, in Australia, have an unnecessary obsession with home ownership? Should we not focus more on rental protections, similar to those in Europe, that make long-term, stable renting easier for those who can not afford a house of their own?

Too right!! Small businesses employ more Australian workers and so should be getting the tax breaks, not the multinationals.

Prime Minister and Minister Wells, the lack of “sexy votes” in aged care issues does not absolve you of your responsibility to uphold the basic human rights of our elderly citizens. They deserve dignity, respect, and care—not neglect.

My heart aches for the vulnerable and elderly who suffer at the hands of the greedy and unscrupulous, seemingly with the Government’s tacit approval.
