That's why I moved to MT when it was cheap. I wanted a house I could pay off (and I did). I spent decades trying to keep my indigent mother housed. That I had to do it this way is not ideal. And that everyone younger than me is locked out is a crime.

It's so weird? And distressing (and, of course utterly wrong).

here's the thing that pisses me off about that noma story: those people are still blacklisted among the many powerful *men* in the culinary industry who still, even after all this evidence, support rene redzepi

I mean, ours has been in the family since the 1860s, and only supports itself, but not my Aunt/cousins because we built a riding arena, grow our own hay and sell it to the boarders. We are all deeply invested in it, but off-farm jobs are required.

Our families knew one another tangentially in Chicago in the 70s. Yup.

Catholic here. Left the Church but not the beliefs if that makes sense. Molesting kids, and being dicks about funerals did it for me. Do miss my lovely lefty parish in SLC though.

From what was formerly a funky, run-down artsy town in Montana that's now fucking AWASH in rich dickheads, nope. Not good at all.

Yes, me too. I spent YEARS being like "oh yeah, that Phd? that was a mistake. I mean if *I* could do it, then what's it worth anyway."
All these years later I'm glad it's been on the wall to remind me.

There's a French theorist Baptiste Morizot, who describes people like her for whom: βBeing at home is being able to live without paying attention β¦ to be able to operate everywhere, in any place, despite oneβs ignorance, quite carelessly, i.e. without knowing a place and its inhabitants.β

A) We got roasted in my 20s when Reagan won, in a country bar in Wexford & it was instructive, and B) living in what's become a US "tourist destination" the way she kept bleating about how "cute" the town was, like it had betrayed her tourist experience, is really what made me want to stab her.

Closing blinds in the sunny windows in the morning, and I also put a lot of new insulation in a couple of summers ago, which helped. If it cools down at night, make sure to open up (unless smoke, which is likely). I'm in MT and the change over the last 10 years is so noticeable.

I have had great luck with window units from the hardware store. Look for the smallest unit with the highest BTUs? They're cheap to run -- even before I got solar, my summer cooling bill with 2 units running was about 1/3 of my winter heat bill. (Make sure to close the blinds etc too).

Big part of why I just quit trying a few years back. But I have a book manuscript I'm closing in on, and while yes, I totally understand that agents are overwhelmed, and the whole industry is coming apart at the seams, how hard is it to set some auto replies?
Anyhow, I find it deeply upsetting.

Is it the gas prices that have everyone driving like maniacs here today? Ours haven't even gone up that much yet. Some dude just screamed up my very residential street, and he's not the first one this morning.

Where Cathy becomes a lady and a slave-holder in her three years without Heathcliff, he returns from his absence as a gentleman and a tyrant. We donβt need to assume that the soul bond between Cathy and Heathcliff is a mystical connection that, like Jane hearing Rochesterβs voice from afar, means that his work on a slave ship is mirrored in her development into a plantation owner. The novel only uses the word slave twice, in discussing the two of them, so the parallel development and grammar of its use exists even without further explanation. This does however complicate Spillersβs assertion that βthe notorious bastardβ¦Heathcliffβ¦has no official female equivalentβ (443); his official female equivalent is Cathy.
Wildin' out tbh.
