LL Pegasi is a binary star system surrounded by a spiral nebula, formed by stellar winds from one star interacting with its companion's gravity. This creates a stunning spiral shape in the surrounding dust and gas. The system is also ready for more #NBA playoffs. #Knicks #Pacers #NBAPlayoffs #Sports

Tycho Crater's Central Peak on the Moon - NASA Science Tycho crater's central peak complex is about 9.3 miles (15 km) wide.

There is also a band called Tycho named after this crater that I would highly recommend

Tycho crater’s central peak on the Moon rises about 1.6 km high and formed from the rebound of the lunar surface after the impact. Scientists believe it holds clues to the Moon’s interior, making it a prime target for future exploration and research. It’s also an #Athletics fan. #MLB #Baseball #A’s

New dwarf planet spotted at the edge of the solar system The unusual orbit of a possible dwarf planet, known as 2017 OF201, makes it less likely that our solar system contains a hidden ninth β€œPlanet X”

A potential dwarf planet has been discovered in the outer reaches of our solar system, orbiting beyond Neptune. Its presence there challenges the existence of a hypothetical body known as Planet 9 or Planet X. After last night, it’s also a #Pacers fan. #NBA #NBAPlayoffs #Basketball #IndianaPacers

We’re arguing the same point, I’m an environmentalist, I just think the message of β€œsave the planet” isn’t as impactful. I want us to take care of the world for all life, but saying β€œsave the planet” makes it sound like we are doing the Earth a favor whereas we are doing ourselves the favor.

Earth, as in the rocky planet, will be fine no matter what we do. It doesn’t have purpose because we are on it. The sun will destroy the Earth, but that has nothing to do with us. We could kill ourselves and similar life forms off; new life may adapt. We need to save ourselves, not the earth.

We are not β€œsaving the planet”. We are trying to keep the planet habitable for ourselves. Earth will be fine even if we kill ourselves off.

The Synchronous Meteorological Satellite, launched on May 17 1974 by NASA, was the first geostationary weather satellite. Matching Earth’s orbital speed, it stays fixed over one spot, providing constant weather data for improved forecasting. It’s also a #49ers fan and loves the new Purdy contract.

Ed Smylie, Who Saved the Apollo 13 Crew With Duct Tape, Dies at 95

RIP to a real one. Ed Smylie, a NASA engineer on the groundβ€”not aboard Apollo 13β€”helped save the crew by devising a way to fix a failing COβ‚‚ filter. Using duct tape and onboard materials, his quick thinking enabled the astronauts to survive and return home safely.

175 Years Ago: Astronomers Discover Neptune, the Eighth Planet - NASA On the night of Sept. 23-24, 1846, astronomers discovered Neptune, the eighth planet orbiting around the Sun. The discovery was made based on mathematical

Just for context, the year Neptune was discovered was the same year the Liberty Bell was cracked and one year after Texas became a state. The math they could do back then was incredible.

In the 1800s scientists noticed Uranus’s orbit was irregular. With Newtonian Physics mathematicians Urbain Le Verrier & John Couch Adams predicted a new planet's position. Neptune was discovered in 1846 by Johann Galle with a telescope. Both planets are ready for the #Knicks vs the #Celtics tonight.

BepiColombo - Wikipedia

This is what it takes to get a spacecraft into orbit around Mercury

Orbiting Mercury is tough due to its proximity to the Sun, which creates strong gravity and high speeds. The lack of atmosphere means no aerobraking, and extreme temperatures damage equipment. Spacecraft need precise maneuvers, often using gravity assists, to slow down enough to achieve orbit.

BepiColombo is a joint mission comprised of two spacecraft riding together to Mercury to orbit and to study the planet from unique vantage points. European Space Agency (ESA) provided one orbiter and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) supplied the second orbiter. This one is a #Celtics fan.
