I don’t have anything notable to say about our farcical nationalist holiday of July 4th, but nevertheless to mark it— please enjoy Moral Minority’s unlocked discussion with @aliner on Derrida and the possibility of radically different universalist democracies-to-come.

This evening I’d like to express gratitude for our new subscribers to Moral Minority Patreon. No doubt this is due to the release of our episode with the poet Alina Stefanescu on Derrida. We’re excited for you to hear our next few episodes on The Second Sex and our summer of literary interviews.

Don’t worry we don’t discuss the whole book chapter by chapter. Our approach is more impressionistic. And we agree, it goes on far too long.

If you don’t want to toss us $5 (although we’d really appreciate it), we ask that you instead buy My Heresies, Alina’s wonderful new poetry collection. Link is in the show notes.

We’re a bit behind in putting out the next episode of Moral Minority. The second half of B&N is dedicated to demonstrating how we have responsibility to other existents. Existential phenomenology feels indulgent, and yet the call of the Other is always a salient ethical concern.

On Moral Minority, we have a subscriber-exclusive series called “Nota Bene” because we believe that the juiciest, most enticing work is done in the footnotes. Retweet with your favorite footnote that you think rivals or exceeds the main text.

“My reasons for reactivating this largely forgotten and putatively archaic genre…are threefold: to draw attention to poetry’s participation in the contemporary information economy, to defamiliarize literary criticism by writing it in a nonstandard form, and for personal amusement.”

Why does morality matter? What grounds the moral principles to which we appeal when making judgments about right and wrong, justice and injustice? Do we have good grounds for making the judgments we do make? And if not, where does that leave us?
