Utah’s elected leaders have pushed for the state to be a hub for data centers, facilities that for decades have relied on large amounts of water to keep their servers cool. Since 2021, Utah has added or announced plans for at least 15 new data center buildings or campuses.
I had a great time at Nonprofit/Reporter Speed Dating tonight! This is the fourth time I've held this event and it always brings me so much joy to connect nonprofit and media folks, so we can all work toward more informed and more engaged communities.

“As difficult as it is to organize a week [of] curated events, you know, it’s all worth it in the end when you hear so many people tell us this is their first time to be in the space with other trans people,” said Jacey Thornton, executive director of Project Rainbow.

This isn't the first trans pride flag raising at Salt Lake City Hall, but it is the first time for the new Sego Visibility Flag they made in response to Utah's ban on pride flags on government property. Project Rainbow and other orgs worked with the city for this to kick off Trans Awareness Week.

"For the first time this year, we're celebrating that both trans campaigns [combined] have more sign-ups than the Pride campaign," Jacey Thornton, ED for Project Rainbow said. "We had like 1,800 flags for our last TDOV, that was a record, that was March. [For Trans Awareness Week] we are at 1,450."
