We’ve Got Stars for Le Chêne, Chalong and More

One star for Chalong, one of the city's top Southern Thai spots. And two stars for Kiko, an expensive tavern that draws from the traditions of Japanese izakayas and Korean pubs. My latest set of NYT reviews with Mahira Rivers! www.nytimes.com/2026/03/04/d...

For most of my childhood my mom was a researcher at Entertainment Weekly and worked in their massive library of other magazines reporters were constantly referencing. We lose so much when reporters, or anyone else, can't access that history.

This may seem tertiary to more important conversations but I think a lot about food/travel writing right now that touts restaurants or activities you should specifically travel for without acknowledging if those destinations are in places trans and queer people can't safely travel

With the Olympics done, my time at The Post is also done. It’s been an amazing five-plus years. The people I worked with weren’t just supremely talented, they were also great humans. This was truly a dream job and I’m eternally grateful I got this opportunity.

And I’ll be keeping my WaPo subscription because while what happened was horrific and nonsensical, there are still great journalists in that building doing essential work. This country needs them, especially in these times.

one of my favorite things about the olympics is that it's the one big deal sporting event where we don't have to listen to a band, organist, or loudspeaker play "seven nation army" every 17 minutes lol

Before Chips and Salsa, There Was Another Complimentary Tex-Mex Appetizer Many fondly remember the dish as a staple of growing up in Texas. There are still a few places that still serve it.

"Well that's an accident but nobody was hurt" is Duvall at his sardonic best. Hagen's supposed to be this above the board "not a wartime consigliere" lawyer but when mike's squeeze shows up and asks about a demolition derby car he gaslights so reflexively you almost believe his mobster bullsh!t

We’ve Got Stars for Bong, Theodora and More

Here's my two-star NYT review of Theodora, a Mediterranean spot that nods toward Latin America — and that imbues its dishes with so much smoke it's like a fancy barbecue restaurant. Really stoked to share this one: www.nytimes.com/2026/02/11/d...

if you're feeling sad — and i reckon a few of us are for all sorts of reasons — allow me to recommend james van der beek playing a fictional, exaggerated version of james van der beek in "don't trust the b in apartment 23." it's an absolute delight and a nice tribute to someone gone too soon :(

The Washington Post just laid off its entire award-winning photo team. They were our eyes in places we'll never see. It's a horrifying loss at a time when lying governments, propaganda and AI slop are on the rise.

I saw the ballet the other night and thought a lot about how one of the first things we did was move our bodies for each other, before the idea of training or expertise existed, just to make each other feel. You can’t “gatekeep” that and you certainly can’t capture it with a stolen algorithm.

Whatever you think of the Washington Post at this moment, here's a chance to support the dedicated, hard-working journalists who were just laid off. If you have the means, your donation is most welcome. If you don't, a kind thought and maybe spreading the word to others is support enough 💙

Team resources is why worker-owned media collectives are so important. It's not gonna fix everything, especially the problem of readers only having so much cash, but everyone can't go it alone.

If you have such contempt for the paper, just sell. Reckless disregard for journalism, a wonderful city and the people who live there.
