Great news!
The Joint Standing Committee on Migration has formally accepted our submission !!
"This submission argues that Australiaβs needs would be better served by a much smaller and better targeted immigration program..."

Sign the SPA Position Statement
In the best interests of our land and people, the SPA position calls for a stabilised Australian population, maintained safely within ecological limits.
Australia's destructive population growth is largely a function of high immigration levels.
If immigration was net zero, our population would soon level off,
... & we could begin enjoying the many benefits of stability.

The #HousingCrisis is a tragedy of unimaginable horror for so many Australians.
The greater tragedy is that it's so easily fixed-
just stop bringing in more people until everyone here is housed.

If Australia is supposedly a #democracy-
Why on earth are we being shut out of immigration level policies.
Why are the pollies colluding on mass immigration?
Why is this rapid population growth
just being rammed down our throats... whether we like it or not!?

Why our economy needs to be updated to one based on sustainability ...
At present, while the term 'sustainability' is sometimes mentioned in our media, rarely is it presented in market economy updates and projections
Like #sustainability #economists at CASSE (steadystate.org/steady-state/) research for a #sustainable future
My Substack post addresses solution by noting most common market reports miss the #economic drivers effecting #economy growth

Human populations are exploding. We've added 800M new humans since Paris 2015. 10% more humans in 10 years. Children now.
We lose min 6% of insect biomass in protected nature reserves. 50% of global biomass loss in 10 years. The stuff on the right disappears faster than our populations & GDPs grow.

Nature has not evolved brains that can process such rapid changes since what we see since 1970 is unique and unchartered. Not in 600 (not 60) million years has anything come close to the speed of change. Human children now grow up slower than nature collapses globally.

βDoomerβ is just an ad hominem label for someone who understands our multi-faceted predicament canβt be solved by βgreen capitalismβ, & in fact that will make it worse. For instance mining for critical minerals (diesel) will need to increase 16x and that will inevitably destroy more of the biosphere

As society becomes increasingly stupefied its members becomes cleverer at doing stupid things. We are now very very clever at doing very very stupid things. In our foolishness, we call the increase in cleverness at doing very stupid things, PROGRESS

Perhaps our biggest error of judgement was misjudging our own capacity to solve our existential problems: despite our own dire projections, we created an ever more complicated jungle of a civilisation that is finally beginning to eat itself alive.

Maybe it's time we asked ourselves: Just what is it they're trying to escape?

Population growth weakening Australiaβs water security: new report
Water demand due to population growth is outstripping improvements in Australiansβ efficiency of household water use, according to new research commissioned by Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) i...
On the world's driest inhabited continent,
#water use efficiency should be a priority
However if we continue to grow our population at this rate, every gain is quickly overwhelmed.
Whereas in a stable population scenario, every efficiency gain- is actually a gain!

Say NO to a Big Australia!
Find out more about SPA's campaign here
When your economy over-relies on an #immigration fed housing construction industry, the population must keep growing at a faster rate.
Why? because you not only need jobs for the last intake, but you must create jobs for the new arrivals.
This ends in disaster!

Less is more: Can degrowth save the world?
The degrowth movement questions the feasibility of the idea of endless economic growth on a finite planet.
Lots of good stuff here,
... but still #overpopulation remains a taboo topic.
To talk smaller impacts while ignoring population size is naive.
