I first thought it was h*mophobes who wanted to punish them for something they saw/heard either at the hotel or diner. And if they thought Eddie died, taking buck still makes sense.

Ok so I slowed down the clip of Buddie getting hit by the truck.
It’s dark, but Buck is wearing this same shirt/jacket so it happens right after the diner.
So how did Buck end up in thick stripes? I did think the shirt wasn’t quite his style but that doesn’t mean much. Did his kidnapper dress him?
All I’m saying is it sounded like they wanted the excuse to be trapped in a car together for a long time, and maybe make a at least one stop to actually sleep along the way.

Also, Atlanta is 4 hours away. They could have driven there instead, and made it to the busiest airport in the world, where they likely would have 20 flights to choose from to get back to LA.
Buck and Eddie’s flight gets canceled so they decide it’s quicker to drive so they can make it back for Hen’s bday.
Drive from Nashville to LA is a minimum of 28hrs and that’s not including stops for gas, food, rest.
